Job summary

Hargrove Engineers + Constructors is seeking an Electrical Engineer I to support routine design tasks under supervision. The role involves producing installation details, MCC schematics, layouts, and related plans while ensuring adherence to NEC and drafting standards.

The ideal candidate has an engineering degree in Electrical Engineering, EIT preferred, and up to 1 year of relevant experience. Strong communication and CAD skills are essential, with on-site startup involvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Registration: Engineer in Training (EIT) preferred.
  • Up to 1 year of relevant industrial experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering.
  • Knowledge and application of the NEC.
  • Knowledge of CAD drafting standards.
  • Ability to perform lighting level calculations.
  • Ability to size wire, conduit and overcurrent protection.
  • Ability to perform voltage drop calculations.
  • Ability to route conduit and cable tray.
  • Proficient in CAD software (AutoCAD or MicroStation).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Good verbal and written communication and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine design of less complex engineering assignments under direct supervision.
  • Produce installation details, motor control center diagrams, electrical room layouts and related plans.
  • Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine efficient engineering solutions.
  • Produce preliminary designs and material take-offs for estimates.
  • Review vendor and other discipline drawings for electrical/instrumentation input.
  • Collaborate with design leaders across disciplines for project information flow.
  • Assist drafting group in resolving layout and detailing problems.
  • Provide on-site assistance during startup.

Job description

What You'll Be DoingJob Scope: Generally responsible for performing routine design of less complex engineering assignments using theoretical knowledge and practical design methods. This work will be performed under direct supervision.Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:Familiarity with and utilizing department design and drafting standards.Familiarity with project scope, specifications and design criteria upon assignment to a project task team.On-site assistance during startup.Producing installation details, motor control center single lines, electric room layouts, motor control elementaries, connection diagrams, cable schedules, control panel layouts and grounding, lighting, power and instrumentation plans under general supervision.Developing conceptual layouts and cost studies as necessary to determine the simplest, most efficient approach to solving engineering tasks at hand.Producing estimate level preliminary designs and material take-offs suitable for the level of the estimate being performed on a project.Producing detail design calculations and sketches for materials of construction associated with the project. Calculations produced will be neatly prepared and organized for efficient checking by others and efficient use by drafters/designers for preparing drawings and as a deliverable when required.Assisting the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems.Consulting with design leaders from other disciplines to ensure the smooth flow of vital information necessary for the scheduled completion of the project.Reviewing and checking vendor drawings and other discipline drawings for electrical/instrumentation input.This position offers a highly competitive compensation package, including paid time off, health insurance benefits, and matching retirement contributions.Ideal BackgroundEducation: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university is required.Registration: Engineer in Training (EIT) registration is strongly preferred.Experience: This position requires up to 1 year of relevant industrial experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering.Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge and application of the current version of the National Electrical Code (NEC).Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.Ability to perform lighting level calculations.Ability to size wire, conduit and overcurrent protection for both lighting and power applications.Ability to perform voltage drop calculations.Ability to route conduit and cable tray.Ability to calculate tray and conduit fill.Working knowledge of CAD software, either AutoCAD, Microstation or both.Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.Good communication skills, both verbal and written.Good presentation skills.Developing virtual team skills and cross divisional relationships, and supporting interoffice execution with direct supervision.Physical RequirementsAbility to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.Hargrove CultureWe work to create an environment founded on trust, personal integrity, and a “team mentality” so that each person understands the value of their contributions both on a project and company-wide level.
