The Role
The Electrical Engineer / Designer is responsible for the design, engineering, coordination, and execution of electrical systems for commercial and industrial construction projects. The role partners with owners, contractors, project managers, estimators, and design professionals to transform project concepts into innovative, code‑compliant, cost‑effective solutions while providing technical leadership and mentorship to junior designers and engineers.
What You'll Do
- Meet with owners, customers, contractors, and project stakeholders to develop project concepts and transform project requirements into complete electrical designs.
- Plan, engineer, and design electrical systems that meet customer objectives, code requirements, project schedules, and budget expectations.
- Prepare engineering calculations, system layouts, specifications, and construction documents for new and existing facilities.
- Coordinate design activities with internal project teams, architects, engineers, vendors, and other design professionals.
- Support preconstruction and estimating efforts by developing scopes of work, equipment selections, and technical documentation.
- Present design concepts, value engineering opportunities, and technical solutions to customers and project stakeholders.
- Provide technical leadership throughout all phases of a project, from conceptual development through construction support and project completion.
- Review design documents for accuracy, constructability, quality, and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Mentor, develop, and provide technical guidance to junior designers and engineers.
- Promote design consistency, quality control, continuous improvement, and adherence to company standards.
- Serve as a technical resource for design, constructability, code compliance, and value engineering questions.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Department Manager.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering required.
- Active Virginia Professional Engineer (PE) license required, or ability to obtain Virginia licensure by comity within six months.
- Experience serving as Engineer of Record and signing and sealing electrical engineering documents preferred.
- Minimum five years of experience in commercial or industrial electrical design and construction.
- Thorough understanding of commercial and industrial construction processes and practices.
- Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Office, and related engineering software.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, schematics, and construction documents.
- Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
