Job summary
Siemens Mobility in Wendell, North Carolina, seeks an Electrical Engineer to design, develop, and manufacture protection and control panels for substation systems. You will integrate Siemens products with other automation components to deliver innovative power solutions onsite.
Responsibilities include design drawings, protection schemes, FAT/SAT procedures, and customer interface activities. Requires 5+ years in HV protection design, with AutoCAD/AUCOTEC tools, and travel readiness.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronic Engineering.
- Five or more years of direct electrical design experience in power systems protection and control, including HV.
- Ability to read DC/AC schematics and one-/two-line diagrams for HV substations.
- Knowledge of protection relays and IEC/IEEE standards related to protection and panel design.
- Experience with communication networks and IEC protocols (IEC61850, DNP, Modbus, etc.).
- Travel willingness (~5%).
- Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Siemens Electrification and Automation is seeking an expert Electrical Engineer to design, develop, and manufacture sophisticated power automation and protection panels for substation systems and applications. In this role, you will integrate Siemens and other automation products to deliver innovative solutions to our customers.

This Electrical Engineer position, focused on HV Protection & Automation Panel Design, is based onsite in Wendell, NC.
- Designing Electrical, Mechanical, and System Drawings of Protection and Control Panels per customer specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools.
- Developing logic diagrams and protection schemes based on technical drawings and detailed customer requirements.
- Preparing Factory & Site Acceptance Test (FAT & SAT) procedures for protection systems projects.
- Collaborating with a team of specialists to develop electrical systems that meet industry standards and customer needs.
- Acting as a primary customer interface, including troubleshooting and commissioning support.
- Serving as a technical leader on projects, guiding other team members in project activities. Providing technical support throughout the project lifecycle (design, implementation, commissioning) and occasionally assisting the sales team with scope development, estimates, and proposals.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronic Engineering.
- Five (5) or more years of direct experience in electrical design within the power systems protection and control engineering field, including high‑voltage (HV) utilities protection and/or automation with experience leading technical engineering activities for electrical panel design projects.
- Ability to read and fully understand DC and AC schematics, and three‑ and one‑line diagrams for Medium and/or High Voltage substation systems and experience producing technical documents for Protection and Control systems for Substations, such as Logic Diagrams, Sequences of Operations, FDS, and test procedures.
- Proven knowledge of transmission and distribution protection relays, with the capability to design, specify, and supervise designs, including Siemens, GE, SEL, ABB, and other relay/automation products and associated software.
- Experience with communication network technologies (design and hardware configuration) and protocols like IEC61850 (MMS/GOOSE/SMV), DNP, Modbus, IEC103, IEC101, IEC104, PROFINET, PROFIBUS.
- Knowledge of ANSI standards relating to designing electrical panels and protection.
- Automation or Protection commissioning experience, and Factory or Site acceptance testing experience in protection and automation systems.
- Experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or AUCOTEC Engineering Base Software.
- Hands‑on experience with Microsoft Visio.
- Willingness and availability for approximately 5% travel, depending on project assignments.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.
- Advanced knowledge of electrical systems protection and automation and experience in designing Protection and Automation Panels for utilities.
- Proven understanding of UL 508A requirements and IEC standards related to electrical protection and panel design.
- Applied knowledge of Medium and High Voltage Protection, including MV protection schemes (e.g., transfer schemes, reverse interlocking), generator protection, and line differential/distance protection.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience working with Engineering Base (EB) Software-AUCOTEC and the Global Engineering Library (GEL) database for design, MicroStation software, or EPLAN.
- Advanced skill level with Microsoft Office.

The pay range for this position is $74,970 - $128,520 annually with a target incentive of 5% of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
