Job description
WSP is searching for an Electrical Engineer for our Dallas, TX office.
As part of our Property & Buildings Team, you will assist with technical guidance for due diligence, investigation, remediation, permitting, design, development, and construction of utility, industrial, and commercial projects. Responsibilities include research, design, concept development, and construction of transmission and distribution substations, power distribution, power regulation, renewable energy, and protection and control systems across utilities, transportation, building, and government projects. You will generate concise reports and documentation, ensuring adherence to quality standards for design, safety, and functionality.
- Collect, compile, and analyze data on substation components, equipment specifications, procurement packages, IFR/IRC design and review processes, and IEEE/NESC Standards/NERC regulations.
- Review third‑party design documents, procurement lists, and project plans.
- Perform professional electrical engineering work related to single‑line, three‑line, wiring diagrams, general arrangement, substation layout, bus arrangement, grounding grid design, and lightning protection.
- Incorporate future‑ready techniques, concept development, operating strategies, and design requirements with equipment sizing, cabling, AC/DC panel design, and conduit and trenching design.
- Support senior engineers with research and recommendations on fundamental components and field equipment applications.
- Verify site characteristics, providing technical assistance on engineering, design, testing, maintenance, modifications, and construction procedures.
- Develop electrical calculations for loads, equipment sizing, feeder sizing, voltage drop, grounding, lighting circuits, controls, facility services, and power distribution.
- Prepare data visualizations, tables, charts, reports, sketches, calculations, and illustrations for presentation of findings.
- Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to execute project work, calculate material/equipment/labor costs, and ensure compliance with specifications, permits, and regulatory analysis memos.
- Assist with development and scoping of small‑ to medium‑sized projects.
- Contribute to technical reports and presentations to improve, prevent, or address design and/or electrical engineering issues.
- Conduct engineering studies and surveys for design and construction problem analysis.
- Analyze and interpret data from field investigations, developing action plans for risk mitigation.
- Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
- Work collaboratively with other engineers and disciplines on projects with electrical infrastructure authorities on federally, state, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering
- 3 to 5 years of relevant post‑education electrical engineering or prior electrical design experience
- Engineer in Training Certification
- Knowledge of electrical engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build, and application to permitting and project work‑related issues
- Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management, including rehabilitation and new design
- Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements
- Knowledge of relevant engineering and electrical construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements
- Capable interpersonal and communication skills, expressing ideas to engineering and non‑engineering audiences
- Effective self‑leadership, attention to detail, results orientation, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
- Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instructions, work independently, and comply with company policies
- Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, mathematics, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit, mathematics, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools
- Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to apply technical knowledge for test results, data collation, and statistical analysis
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project‑specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements
- Master’s Degree in Engineering
- Essential Professional Licensure/Certification
- Prior Design Experience on Healthcare‑related projects
- Experience with Revit

Expected Salary (all locations): $85,200–$121,770
