Job summary

Koch Fertilizer is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our Maintenance & Reliability team in Wever, Iowa. You will help drive electrical reliability and asset performance across one of the newest fertilizer production facilities in the Koch Fertilizer network.

You will collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to identify opportunities, solve technical challenges, and support the safe operation of plant electrical systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience in electrical equipment reliability.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role including outdoor work, heights, lifting, and PPE.
  • Willingness to enter confined spaces when required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide electrical engineering support for plant operations, maintenance, and reliability initiatives.
  • Investigate equipment and system failures using root cause analysis and implement sustainable solutions to improve reliability.
  • Partner with operations, maintenance, and reliability teams to optimize electrical equipment performance.
  • Support troubleshooting and repair of electrical distribution systems, motors, MCCs, VFDs, and related equipment.
  • Develop electrical specifications, scopes of work, and technical documentation for capital projects and equipment upgrades.
  • Utilize MOC, Maximo, and reliability tools to implement improvements and manage risk.
  • Interface with vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders to evaluate technologies and execute projects.
  • Support planned outages, turnarounds, and major maintenance activities to improve reliability.
  • Mentor and develop maintenance personnel by sharing technical knowledge and reliability best practices.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
Equivalent years of experience in electrical equipment reliability, electrical design, or power systems engineering

Koch Fertilizer is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our Maintenance & Reliability team in Wever, Iowa. In this role, you will help drive electrical reliability, asset performance, and continuous improvement across one of the newest fertilizer production facilities in the Koch Fertilizer network. You will collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to identify opportunities, solve complex technical challenges, and support the safe and reliable operation of plant electrical systems.

Our Team

The Maintenance & Reliability team supports the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the Wever facility. This team includes engineers, planners, specialists, technicians, and operations partners who work together to improve equipment performance and create long-term value for the business. The Electrical Engineer will work closely with maintenance, operations, process controls, and project teams while leveraging expertise from across Koch Fertilizer and Koch Ag & Energy Solutions.

What You Will Do
  • Provide electrical engineering support for plant operations, maintenance, and reliability initiatives.
  • Investigate equipment and system failures using root cause analysis and implement sustainable solutions that improve reliability.
  • Partner with operations, maintenance, and reliability teams to optimize the performance of electrical equipment and systems.
  • Support troubleshooting and repair efforts for electrical distribution systems, motors, motor control centers (MCCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), and related equipment.
  • Develop electrical specifications, scopes of work, and technical documentation for capital projects and equipment upgrades.
  • Utilize work processes such as Management of Change (MOC), Maximo, and reliability tools to implement improvements and manage risk.
  • Interface with vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders to evaluate technologies, procure equipment and execute projects.
  • Support planned outages, turnarounds, and major maintenance activities to improve equipment reliability and plant performance.
  • Mentor and develop maintenance personnel by sharing technical knowledge, troubleshooting methodologies, and reliability best practices.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering; or equivalent years of experience in electrical equipment reliability, electrical design, or power systems engineering
  • Willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the role, including:
    • Working outdoors in all weather conditions
    • Climbing ladders and working at heights of more than 100 feet
    • Bending, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds, and performing field evaluations
    • Wearing required PPE, including respirators when necessary
    • Entering confined spaces when required
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, military, or other technical environment.
  • Experience troubleshooting and solving technical problems involving electrical systems or equipment.
  • Working knowledge of applicable electrical standards including NEC, NFPA, NEMA, ANSI, IEEE, NETA, API, and related industry standards
  • Experience utilizing Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
  • Experience specifying, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting switchgear, transformers, protective relays, motor control centers, VFDs, UPS systems, generators, and related power system equipment
