Job description

Overview

Kelly Engineering is seeking an Electrical Engineer for a long-term contract-to-hire position at our industrial technology client in Dayton, OH. This engineer will architect and implement electrical designs in consultation with the system, controls, firmware, and application software teams, across prototyping, design, and production build phases to provide the system with the necessary component hardware. The electrical engineer will work with product and project managers to ensure the correct build states are completed as scheduled and will conduct in-depth analysis of design performance, providing guidance and test plans for design verification and regulatory teams.

This role supports the development of advanced positioning, control, and automation products for construction and mining equipment, leveraging IMUs, GNSS, lasers, optics, and sonics to deliver precise horizontal and vertical machine guidance from concept design through large-scale production.

Responsibilities
  • Contributes technical expertise in hardware component development, with emphasis on inertial sensor technology (IMUs).
  • Identifies and develops new technologies for new or existing products.
  • Responsible for complete design development and documentation.
  • Performs circuit analysis, bench and validation testing support, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies.
  • Leads in finding expeditious resolutions to critical, complex technical problems.
  • Conducts design reviews and contributes input.
  • Supports transition of completed products to manufacturing by providing ECNs, writing test procedures, and designing test fixtures (entry level).
  • Contributes to customer presentations and discussions of technical issues at program reviews; provides guidance on technical matters and task schedules.
  • Presentations to customers and discussions of technical issues at program reviews, as needed.
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Master of Science in Electrical Engineering or Bachelor’s Degree with equivalent experience.
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong testing and circuit debugging experience.
  • Experience in designing Functional Safety products.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical specifications, test plans, and documentation.
  • Electronic circuit research experience.
  • Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) experience with accelerometers and gyroscopes is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with MATLAB, SPICE (PSpice); Agile PLM and Oracle ERP experience preferred.
  • MS Excel (Sheets) for BOM creation, statistics, and simple data analysis.
  • Word (Docs) for test plans and reports; PowerPoint (Slides) for design idea presentations.
  • Familiarity with C and C++ firmware development.
Compensation, Benefits, and Employment Type
