SUMMARY

Halliwell is looking for a Senior Forensic Electrical Engineer who is passionate and has some experience in investigating and analyzing electrical systems and components to determine the cause of failures, malfunctions, outages, and damage conditions. You will work closely with insurance companies, independent adjusters, attorneys and other clients to provide expert analysis in support of claims, disputes, and litigation. This role requires a combination of deep technical knowledge and strong investigative skills to assess, report, and present findings effectively.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct forensic investigations into electrical failures, malfunctions, and catastrophic events, including fires, equipment breakdowns, and electrical faults.
  • Perform on-site inspections and testing of electrical systems, wiring, devices, and components to identify potential defects or failures.
  • Analyze electrical design, installation, maintenance, and operation records to assess compliance with industry standards, regulations, and codes.
  • Recreate electrical failures using various methods and testing equipment to determine root causes.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports that include findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Provide expert witness testimony in legal proceedings, depositions, and trials.
  • Collaborate with insurance adjusters, legal teams, and clients to explain findings and clarify technical aspects.
  • Stay current on electrical standards, codes, and best practices, as well as advancements in forensic engineering techniques.
  • Assist in the development of protocols and procedures for forensic investigations.
  • Participate in continuing education and professional development to maintain industry certifications.
Key Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience in electrical engineering; forensic experience, preferred.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) certification required; additional certifications in forensic engineering (e.g., IAAI, NAFI) are a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience with electrical design and failure analysis tools.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple investigations simultaneously.
  • Ability to conduct on-site inspections, including the examination of damaged structures and systems.
  • Experience working in forensic engineering or expert witness consulting, preferred.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code) and other relevant codes and standards, preferred.
  • Experience with fire investigation and determining electrical causes of fires, preferred.
  • Position involves fieldwork, including on-site inspections of electrical systems and equipment in a variety of environments.
  • Office based work is required to analyze data, write reports, and communicate with clients and legal teams.
