Job summary

Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our team supporting the Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) at their Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory (KAPL). This position is full-time and will be based out of Niskayuna, NY with 20% hybrid flexibility.

Responsibilities

• Work within a project team environment to support construction projects at the Knolls Site.
• Develop and define project scope with sponsors.
• Work with a project team to develop specifications, cost estimates, drawing reviews, and provide engineering support during construction phase for buildings and utility projects.
• Oversee architectural engineering firms in developing concept designs, construction documents, and cost estimates.
• Coordinate and interact with facility staff and contractors.

Requirements

• Education & Years of Experience – Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and 5+ years of relevant experience; 5 years of experience for Engineer II and 10+ years for level III.
• Citizenship – U.S. citizen required due to federal nature of the work.
• Clearance – must be able to obtain and maintain a government‑issued clearance if needed.
• Experience performing electrical engineering tasks including development of contract documents, calculations, and cost estimates.
• Working knowledge of building codes and standards.
• Experience in construction administration (submittal review, RFIs, construction inspections, etc.).

Desired Skills

• EIT certificate and/or P.E. license; consulting experience.
• Working knowledge of the NEC.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory consists of the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory in West Mifflin, PA, the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Niskayuna, NY, the Kesselring Site in West Milton, NY, and the Naval Reactor Facility in Idaho Falls, ID. Together, they develop advanced technology for the U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, ensuring safety and reliability of naval nuclear reactors and training sailors who operate reactors in submarines and aircraft carriers.
