Job description

What we're building

The marine industry supports recreation, global commerce, and national defense. And yet it runs on technology that hasn't meaningfully changed in fifty years. Until now. Arc is on a mission to electrify the marine industry. We're rethinking powertrains, software, and vessel designs from first principles. And we're already executing. We started with consumers to develop and harden our core technology. We're now scaling production of our flagship model with new models and sectors on the horizon. Now we're extending our platform to commercial applications, starting with tugs, ferries, and defense, with years worth of signed contracts and a pipeline that spans every vessel type on the water. The technology is proven, the momentum is building, and the opportunity is enormous. The marine industry is going electric and Arc is building the platform that powers it

Who we're looking for

As an Electrical Engineer, you will be working full-time in our Torrance office on the Commercial Systems team reporting to our head of commercial systems and working on designing new electric and hybrid propulsion systems to make port operations cheaper, quieter, and less emissive.

This is a full-time, on-site role at our Los Angeles headquarters.

What You\'ll Do
  • Translating high-level control architectures and P&IDs into detailed, manufacturable hardware definitions and panel layouts
  • Owning logical IO allocation, schematics, and 2D/3D panel layouts
  • Generating manufacturing data packages, including BOMs, wire lists, and terminal strip diagrams
  • Getting hands-on with wiring, testing, and debugging both high and low voltage systems
  • Owning the development and use of bench test systems, ensuring feature parity between bench systems and production vessels
  • Supporting sea trials to validate and certify systems
  • Interfacing with component suppliers, partner shipyards, and vessel operators, with occasional travel (5-10% of the time)
Minimum Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience as an Electrical Engineer, Automation Engineer, or similar role
  • Solid electrical fundamentals with a strong focus on control panel design and low voltage distribution
  • Extensive experience with electrical design software suites (Zuken, EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar)
  • Experience specifying industrial automation and networking hardware (PLCs, IO modules, network switches, power supplies, etc.)
  • Experience with industrial and automotive communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus, CAN, etc.)
  • Practical experience designing, building, and troubleshooting electrical panels and hardware
  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • Strong time management skills
  • Comfortable pushing at a fast but sustainable pace
  • Comfortable spending time on boats in the field to collect test data
  • A history of end-to-end ownership, applying first-principles thinking, and prioritizing technical problems effectively for the most business value
Bonus Qualifications
  • Firsthand experience working on commercial marine vessels
  • Familiarity with UL508A, IEC 61439, or similar industrial control panel design standards
  • Understanding of ABS, USCG, IEEE, and IEC standards for electrical systems on commercial vessels
  • Experience with functional safety (DFMEA, redundancy strategies) for mission-critical systems
  • Experience with EMI/EMC and grounding in marine or industrial environments, including shielding practices and cable segregation within and between enclosures
  • Advanced expertise specifically in Zuken Panel / E3 modules for panel layout and harness routing

At Arc, we encourage diversity and consider all qualified applicants equally for employment, regardless of background, identity, or status. You\'re always welcome to reach out even if you don\'t meet many of these qualifications. Passion and aptitude make up for a lot.
