Job summary

Matrix PDM Engineering in Pittsburgh is seeking an Electrical Engineer III to perform advanced design and analysis to support field and fabrication offices. The role emphasizes professional judgment and coordination across teams.

The ideal candidate holds a BS in Engineering (MS preferred), 5+ years of experience, and familiarity with strength of materials, mechanics, structural analysis, and NEC/IEEE standards. PE certification is a plus.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Engineering; MS preferred.
  • 5+ years of related engineering experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of strength of materials, mechanics, and structural analysis.
  • Proficiency with IEEE, NEC, and NESC standards preferred.
  • Experience designing layout and spacing, specifying equipment, and performing protection and coordination studies in SKM or ETAP preferred.
  • Strong PC skills including MS Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Performs advanced design and analysis work on projects.
  • Coordinates tasks with engineers, designers, and staff.
  • Prepares portions of project documents and edits specifications.
  • Assists with schedule and budget determinations.
  • Provides design guidance and technical judgment on conventional projects.
  • Supports PM, client, and stakeholder communications.

Job Summary

The Electrical Engineer III is responsible for performing advanced design and analysis work as directed to support various field and fabrication offices.

Essential Functions
  • Actively supports the Company's commitment to safety and its "Core Values."

  • Develops broad knowledge and skills in a specific practice area.
  • Evaluates, selects and applies standard techniques, procedures and criteria to perform a task or sequence of tasks for conventional projects with few complex features.
  • Collaboratively uses judgment to determine adaptations in methods for non-routine aspects of assignments.
  • Works on small projects or on portions of large projects.
  • Performs moderate design tasks.
  • Coordinates tasks and work with entry level engineers, designers, or administrative staff.
  • Assists in determining schedule and budget requirements.
  • Prepares portions of project documents.
  • Edits specifications.
  • Performs research and investigations.
  • Receives instruction on specific objectives.
  • Receives direction on unconventional and/or complex problems, and possible solutions.
  • Receives a thorough review of completed work for application of sound professional judgment.
  • Assists with PM, client, customer contacts and communication pertaining to specific assignments or meetings.
  • Performs other related duties, as directed.
Qualifications
  • BS in Engineering required; MS degree preferred. Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) preferred.
  • 5+ years related engineering experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of strength of materials, mechanics, and structural analysis.
  • Proficiency in IEEE, NEC, and NESC standards preferred.
  • Knowledge of numerical methods of structural analysis preferred.
  • Experience designing layout and spacing, specifying equipment, , and performing protection and coordination studies in SKM or ETAP is preferred.
  • Strong PC skills including MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Cooperates with other team members; interacts with individuals at all organizational levels in professional manner.
  • Exhibits excellent listening, oral and written skills.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills and ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously under time sensitive deadlines.
  • Occasional overtime and travel may be required.
