A major clean-energy and advanced manufacturing organisation is hiring a Staff BESS Electrical Design Engineer to lead the engineering and deployment of utility-scale battery energy storage projects.
You will own BESS electrical design from initial system sizing and interconnection through detailed design, equipment procurement, construction and commissioning.
The Role
- Lead electrical engineering for utility-scale BESS projects from concept through energisation.
- Serve as Electrical Engineer of Record for assigned projects.
- Design AC and DC systems incorporating inverters, battery modules, transformers, DC combiners and medium-voltage equipment.
- Develop single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, grounding plans, raceway layouts and protection strategies.
- Lead utility and ISO/RTO interconnection activities.
- Perform load-flow, short-circuit, arc-flash and protective-device coordination studies.
- Specify and evaluate switchgear, transformers, breakers, contactors, fuses, metering and emergency power-off systems.
- Coordinate with civil, structural, SCADA, telecom and fire-protection engineering teams.
- Produce complete IFC packages and technical specifications.
- Support procurement, construction, testing and commissioning.
- Act as the internal technical authority for BESS engineering and regulatory compliance.
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited programme.
- Licensed Professional Engineer in Nevada, or eligible through reciprocity.
- Ability to obtain Nevada and South Carolina PE registration within two months.
- At least five years' experience within energy storage, solar or microgrids.
- A minimum of three years specifically focused on BESS design and deployment.
- Strong understanding of utility interconnection and grid integration.
- Detailed knowledge of NEC 705, NEC 706, IEEE 1547, UL 9540 and NFPA 855.
- Experience using ETAP, SKM or comparable power-system modelling software.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD or Revit, Navisworks and Bluebeam.
- HOMER, PSCAD, PSSE, PSLF or SEL relay experience would be advantageous.
This is a high-impact opportunity for a BESS engineer who wants to design projects that proceed into construction, rather than remaining at feasibility stage.
