Job summary

Biolase in Foothill Ranch, CA, seeks an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our R&D team. You will own analog and digital hardware design from concept through validation, collaborating with cross-functional groups to advance laser systems and dental imaging products.

The role requires hands-on design, PCB layouts, firmware interfaces, and device testing, with opportunities to work on high-power diode laser drivers and wireless modules. Travel to Corona up to 10% may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 5+ years hands-on analog and digital hardware design experience.
  • Experience with 8-bit and ARM-based 32-bit MCUs.
  • Proficiency with Cadence OrCAD, PADS, and Altium Designer.
  • Experience with diode laser systems and high-power laser drivers.
  • Knowledge of BLE, RF4CE, Zigbee, and Wi‑Fi wireless protocols.
  • Proficient with I2C, I2S, SPI, and UART interfaces.
  • FDA/medical device regulatory familiarity is a plus.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% to Corona location.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop analog and digital circuits using Cadence OrCAD, Altium Designer, and PADS.
  • Create schematics, PCB layouts, and BOMs.
  • Perform hardware validation, debugging, and board bring-up.
  • Develop wireless systems using BLE, RF4CE, Zigbee, and Wi‑Fi.
  • Work with embedded interfaces such as I2C, I2S, SPI, and UART.
  • Program and test 8-bit and 32-bit ARM microcontrollers.
  • Operate lab equipment for testing and troubleshooting.
  • Write and maintain technical documentation including design specifications and validation protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with FDA and medical device regulatory standards.
  • Travel to Corona location up to 10%.
