HDR is looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our Building Engineering Services team in Charlotte or Raleigh. The candidate will serve a diverse client base including Healthcare, Water/Wastewater, Science & Technology, Federal, Industrial, Mission Critical, and Commercial clients.
The Electrical Engineer will lead a team, design projects from start to finish, coordinate with clients, project managers, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders, and develop construction documents, specifications, calculations, and perform RFIs, shop drawing reviews, site investigations, and construction administration. Passion, self‑motivation, and strong leadership skills are required to deliver technically excellent design solutions.
Responsibilities
- Provide detailed designs and coordination of facilities with team members
- Prepare construction documents with BIM/CADD platforms
- Edit and prepare design specifications
- Review fee estimates, cost opinions, and write technical documents
- Perform QA/QC review of construction documents and technical reports
- Select equipment using vendor software and communicate with sales representatives
- Track and meet design budgets
- Attend and lead design meetings with other team members
- Provide construction administration service throughout all phases of construction
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing lighting and electrical systems for healthcare, laboratory, federal, water/wastewater, utility, mission critical, and commercial office facilities
- Strong communication skills, self‑motivated and organized
- Ability to work both independently and with a project team
- Some travel required
- BIM/Revit experience preferred
- Local candidates preferred

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis
- Previous experience in electrical design of buildings (lighting/power/systems)
- Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., PE or P.Eng)
- Strong computer skills using AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Revit, SKM, AGI, and Easy Power
