Job summary

Serac Group is seeking an Electrical Engineer I in the United States (Carol Stream, IL) to oversee electrical design for sold machines. You will program PLCs and HMIs, provide workshop support, and help ensure machines meet performance targets on schedule.

You will collaborate with mechanical and operations teams, create and manage BOMs, and conduct FAT testing while ensuring proper documentation. This role requires a bachelor's in electrical engineering and 0–2 years of controls design

Job Summary

The Electrical Engineer level I role oversees all electrical design aspects to ensure alignment with company standards and customer needs. After a machine is sold, will serve as the primary contact for electrical design, handling programming (PCs, PLCs, and HMIs), providing workshop support, troubleshooting, and conducting setup and testing, with the goal of delivering machines that meet functionality, speed, and efficiency targets on schedule.

Essential Functions

• Interpret customer specifications to define project requirements and develop electrical designs, drawings, and programs accordingly.
• Create and manage the project BOM in PLM, ensuring purchasing demand is accurately generated.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical and operations teams to align electrical requirements and support machine startup and site acceptance.
• Conduct comprehensive testing of machine programs and support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), ensuring all documentation and drawings are accurate and up to date.
• Maintain organized electrical documentation and collaborate with the France headquarters to leverage existing resources and best practices.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Proficient in controls engineering design for industrial machinery, including PLC and HMI programming (Rockwell Studio 5000; Allen Bradley is a plus).
• Skilled in reading and creating electrical schematics, panel layouts, and using CAD software (EPLAN P8 preferred).
• Knowledgeable in national electrical and safety standards (NEC, NFPA, ANSI), with a basic understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
• Strong organizational, task prioritization, and communication skills, with fluency in English.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with QAD and SmarTeam is a plus.
• Fluency in French is a plus but not required.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
• 0-2 years of experience in machine controls design (electrical & technical background required).

Physical Demands

Work is performed largely in an office or climate-controlled warehouse environment. Some hours will be spent at various remote locations. Hours of work are generally during regular business. There will be some variation in work hours due to employee shift schedules, special projects, deadlines, customer needs and various other business concerns. Out of town and overnight travel, both local and international, is required for business and education, by air and/or auto. Must be able to lift and carry up to 35 pounds, as well as the ability to bend, kneel, walk or sit for extended periods of time. The ability to reach above head and below knees is also required.
