Job summary

Ampcus Inc. is seeking a highly motivated Electrical Engineer to join our team in Buffalo, NY. This entry-level position will support the System Interconnection/System Planning Team, focusing on conceptual engineering design for new interconnection and transmission projects.

The ideal candidate will assist project management, coordinate with various stakeholders, and support the NYISO interconnection process while demonstrating knowledge in power flow and transient simulations. A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems is required, along with relevant experience.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of high-voltage substation and transmission line engineering experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of project management experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist with Project Management to coordinate with developers to meet technical requirements.
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders, NYISO, developers, and AE firms for facility study design.
• Support and coordinate with various teams to draft and execute Interconnection Agreements.
• Develop and review responsibility matrices for facility studies and agreements.
• Prepare project requests and coordinate with OPMG for cost tracking.
• Review Feasibility Study scope and reports.
• Demonstrate knowledge in power flow and transient simulations using PSSE or TARA.

Project Overview

This position will support the System Interconnection/System Planning Team and associated work related to the conceptual engineering design for System Impact Study and Facility Study phases of new interconnection projects, new transmission projects, and conventional facility modifications. The entry-level electrical engineer will support the project team and interface with Client’s cross-functional teams and work in a matrix environment with internal and external stakeholders in support of NYISO’s interconnection process to reliably interconnect Generation, Load and Transmission projects to the New York State Electric Transmission System. The candidate will be based out of either the Buffalo or WPO office.

Job Functions & Responsibilities

• Assist with Project Management to coordinate with the developers of Generation and Transmission projects to ensure designs and specifications are reviewed so they meet the Authority’s technical requirements.
• Coordinate with internal Client stakeholders, NYISO, developers, and AE firms for the facility study design and conceptual design for the generator connection that requires Client transmission facility modification.
• Coordinate with Client Environmental, Transmission Planning and Transmission Operations, Client Site Engineering and Client Legal to develop NDAs, facility study agreements, and cost-reimbursable agreements.
• Support and coordinate with Engineering, Design, Strategic Supply Management, Legal, Environmental, and Client site owners to draft and execute Interconnection Agreements.
• Develop and review responsibility matrices for the facility study and Interconnection agreements.
• Prepare project requests and coordinate with OPMG to generate project numbers and WBS codes for cost tracking.
• Review Feasibility Study (FES) scope, FES report, System Reliability Impact Study (SRIS) scope and reports.
• Demonstrate knowledge in interpreting results from power flow and transient simulations using PSSE or TARA.
• Coordinate with Client engineering, design, and sites to provide asset information, drawings, and standards for interconnection to Client transmission or generation facilities.

Skills

• Experience with the NYISO interconnection process, preferred.
• Experience with high-voltage substation and transmission project development and execution.

Education & Certifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems from an accredited institution at the time of application.
• Minimum of 3 years of high-voltage substation and transmission line engineering experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of project management experience.
• New York State Professional Engineer (PE), desired.
