Job summary

SSOE Group is seeking an Electrical Engineer to design and support electrical systems for advanced technology and semiconductor facilities in Austin, TX. You will develop MV/LV power distribution, perform load studies, and coordinate interfaces with multidisciplinary teams across projects from concept to construction.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform electrical design and engineering for advanced technology and semiconductor facilities, including conceptual development, basis of design, load analysis, and detailed construction documents for new builds, expansions, and renovations.
• Design and coordinate comprehensive low voltage and medium voltage power distribution systems, including MV switchgear, substations, transformers, switchboards, MCCs, panelboards, busway, and critical power pathways.
• Develop electrical one-lines, riser diagrams, equipment schedules, power plans, and calculations for safe and reliable facility operations.
• Conduct load calculations, short-circuit studies, voltage drop analysis, coordination studies, and arc flash analysis for code-compliant design.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve design conflicts and maintain project schedule.
• Participate in QA/QC reviews and design reviews to ensure accuracy and constructability.
• Support design-build delivery by responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and incorporating field feedback.
• Conduct site walks and construction administration activities to verify conditions and support issue resolution.
• Mentor junior staff through design reviews and calculations.

The Electrical Engineer will support the planning and design of complex electrical systems for high-performance facilities in the Semiconductor / Advanced Technology market, with a focus on cleanroom environments, fab infrastructure, and mission-critical manufacturing spaces. This role will develop electrical concepts, perform load studies, and design low voltage and medium voltage power distribution systems that support highly sensitive production environments. Working closely with project managers, discipline leads, clients, contractors, and other technical teams, the engineer will help deliver coordinated, code-compliant, and constructible solutions from early design through construction administration. The role requires strong technical judgment, attention to safety, and the ability to manage design changes, risk, and quality across integrated project delivery teams.

Responsibilities

• Perform electrical design and engineering for advanced technology and semiconductor facilities, including conceptual development, basis of design, load analysis, and detailed construction documents for new builds, expansions, and renovations.
• Design and coordinate comprehensive low voltage and medium voltage power distribution systems, including MV switchgear, substations, transformers, switchboards, motor control centers, panelboards, busway systems, and critical power pathways.
• Develop electrical one-lines, riser diagrams, equipment schedules, power plans, and associated calculations to support safe, reliable, and maintainable facility operations.
• Conduct load calculations, short-circuit studies, voltage drop analysis, selective coordination, and arc flash hazard mitigation analysis to support code-compliant and resilient electrical system design.
• Collaborate with project managers, architects, designers, and engineers from our process, mechanical, structural, controls, and fire protection teams to coordinate system interfaces, resolve design conflicts, and maintain project schedule and scope.
• Participate in QA/QC reviews, interdisciplinary coordination meetings, and internal design reviews to confirm accuracy, constructability, code compliance, and alignment with project requirements.
• Support integrated design-build delivery by responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals and vendor data, and incorporating field feedback into design revisions and change management.
• Conduct site walks, field investigations, and construction administration activities to verify existing conditions, assess installation progress, and support issue resolution during construction and startup.
• Mentor junior staff as needed through design reviews, calculation checking, and technical guidance on electrical systems, standards, and best practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution, qualifying candidate for professional engineering licensure in Arizona.
• Preference will be given to candidates who hold a Professional Engineering (PE) license. This credential may qualify candidates for the higher end of the salary range, depending on experience and overall qualifications.
• Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE/EIT) exam, with a focus on electrical engineering principles, is highly desired.
• Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD for electrical design drafting is required. Experience with other tools such as Revit, ETAP, SKM Power Tools, and/or EasyPower is a plus.
• Demonstrated experience with electrical design and planning for complex, large-scale facilities from concept through construction administration in an integrated design-build environment.
• Strong knowledge of low voltage and medium voltage power distribution systems, including switchgear, substations, transformers, switchboards, MCCs, panelboards, busway, and critical power systems.
• Experience performing electrical calculations and analyses such as load studies, coordination studies, short-circuit calculations, voltage drop analysis, and arc flash mitigation.
• Proficiency in producing and reviewing electrical design documents, construction drawings, specifications, and calculation packages using industry-standard engineering tools.
• Ability to coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, vendors, contractors, and clients while managing technical details, deadlines, and design changes.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly and support design decisions in project meetings and reviews.
• Ability to mentor junior team members, contribute to quality assurance processes, and maintain a professional, collaborative, and safety-focused approach to project delivery.
