Job summary

City of Alcoa Electric Department seeks an Electrical Engineer to design distribution extensions, replacements, relocations, and system improvements, ensuring reliable service. The role involves preparing drawings, specifications, calculations, and construction documentation; performing load studies; and supporting planning, outages, and system operations.

Engineer II requires P.E. Tennessee or ability to obtain within 12 months.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Engineer I: E.I./EIT certification or ability to obtain within the timeframe established by the City.
  • Engineer II: Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Tennessee or ability to obtain within 12 months.

Responsibilities

  • Design electric distribution extensions, replacements, relocations, and system improvements.
  • Prepare drawings, specifications, work orders, cost estimates, calculations, and construction documentation.
  • Perform studies on system loading, voltage, capacity, power quality, protection, and reliability.
  • Assist with system planning, load forecasting, capital improvements, and evaluating future system needs.
  • Evaluate customer and development projects to determine service requirements and system impacts.
  • Provide technical engineering support for construction, maintenance, substations, SCADA, metering, and outage restoration.
  • Coordinate engineering and construction projects with customers, developers, contractors, consultants, utilities, governmental agencies, and City departments.
  • Utilize GIS, CAD, SCADA, OMS, system modeling, and other engineering technologies.
  • Engineer II responsibilities include leading complex engineering projects, independently performing advanced analyses, providing technical direction, and mentoring less-experienced personnel.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Engineer I: E.I./EIT certification or ability to obtain within the timeframe established by the City. Electric utility, power systems, distribution, internship, or cooperative education experience is preferred but not required.
  • Engineer II: Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Tennessee, or ability to obtain Tennessee licensure within 12 months, and progressively responsible professional engineering experience in electric power systems, distribution, utility engineering, or a closely related field.
