Job summary

Science is a clinical stage, vertically integrated technology company focused on solving some of neuroscience’s hardest questions and most serious unmet medical needs. We design, test, and maintain electronics for cutting edge medical devices and work across biology, micro-fabrication, optics, and software to understand implications of electronics choices.

We offer a base salary range of $130,000–$200,000 for this full-time California role, plus equity and benefits.

Qualifications

  • Experience in electronic system design using microcontrollers, microprocessors or FPGAs.
  • Skilled in PCB design using industry standard tools such as Altium, OrCAD etc
  • Strong understanding of power management in robotics systems
  • Familiarity with communication protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, SDIO, etc)
  • Skilled in low noise analog sensor interface design
  • Adept using tools for electronic system characterization including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers etc.
  • Strong circuit analysis and simulation skills
  • Ability to hand-solder small microelectronic components, including BGA parts and 0201 passives
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills

Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, and characterize electrical systems, generally at the PCB level, for advanced medical device applications
  • Oversee the transfer of R&D projects to scalable manufacturing solutions
  • Test, qualification, and failure-mode analysis on electrical systems, especially PCB-As
  • Feasibility investigation and prototype of new concepts
  • Clear documentation and communication of design and test work
  • Interface and communication with cross-disciplinary teams, including microfabrication, software, IC design, biology, QARA, and clinical

We are seeking outstanding electrical engineers with a passion for solving some of neuroscience’s hardest problems and most serious unmet medical needs. You will be responsible for designing, testing and maintaining electronics for cutting edge medical devices. You will work with experts from biology, micro-fabrication, optics and software - clear communication and an eagerness and aptitude to understand implications of electronics design choices on those domains and vice versa is essential.

Role responsibilities:
  • Architect, design, and characterize electrical systems, generally at the PCB level, for advanced medical device applications

Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience with control of test equipment via Python
  • Experience with Embedded Linux
  • Understanding of firmware development to factor firmware development into part selection
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • 3+ years experience
  • Familiar with IEC 60601 certification and working under ISO 13485

For individuals hired to work in California, Science is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. We determine your level based on your interview performance and make an offer based on geo-located salary bands.The base salary range for this full-time position is $130,000- $200,000 + equity + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by several factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please keep in mind that the equity portion of the offer is not included in these numbers.
