Job summary

ARK Systems is seeking an Experienced Electrical/Electronic Systems Low Voltage Estimator to join our team in Frederick, MD. The role involves estimating fire alarm systems by interpreting detailed plans and specifications to calculate costs, time, and materials for projects.

You will price labor and materials, perform take-offs, and prepare proposals while maintaining current pricing in our systems. A strong background in life safety, construction practices, and MS Office tools is expected.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent with 3 years of electric/electronic training.
• Prefer 2–5 years of Life Safety Systems estimating experience.
• Construction accounting experience is preferred but not required.
• Installation and prior construction experience are a plus.
• Competent with Microsoft Office, Access and other software.

Responsibilities

• Prices labor and materials for fire alarm systems based on designs, specs, drawings and codes.
• Take-offs from drawings to determine devices and prepare customer proposals.
• Maintain and archive proposals and bids for future actions.
• Maintain computer pricing databases with current products.
• Attend site surveys with sales to determine needs for selling/installing a job.
• Fill out material requisition forms.
• Assist the sales department on technical and installation issues.

Summary

The Low Voltage System Estimator is responsible for estimating Fire Alarm Systems for ARK’s customers. He or she is responsible for accurately interpreting detailed plans and specifications, and then using the information to calculate the costs, time, and materials required to complete the project.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Prices labor and materials for fire alarm systems based on customer design requirements, specifications, drawings, and building codes.
• Do take-offs from drawings and prints to determine the number and types of devices that are going to be used, incorporate them into an actual system, and put together proposals for the customer.
• Maintains and archives proposals and bids for future actions.
• Maintains computer programs with current pricing and new products.
• Attends site surveys with the sales department to determine what is necessary to sell and install a job.
• Fills out material requisition forms.
• Assists the sales department on technical and installation issues.

Education and Experience

• Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent supplemented with 3 years of electric/electronic training
• Prefer 2-5 years experience in estimating Life Safety Systems.
• Previous experience in construction accounting is preferred, but not required.
• Installation experience and prior construction experience are a plus.
• Competent computer skills to perform essential functions listed above including Microsoft Office, Access, and other required third-party software.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time
