Job summary

Saber Power Services is seeking an Electrical Drafter I in Houston to assist in preparing accurate drawings and schematics for electrical and civil disciplines, with emphasis on substations and transmission/distribution line design. You will create detailed drawings, 3D models, and construction documentation using CAD tools.

Ideal candidates have an associate degree or technical certification in drafting, familiarity with AutoCAD, and a willingness to learn across electrical and civil

Qualifications

• Entry-level drafting role focusing on electrical substations and T&D line design.
• Associate degree or technical certification in drafting or related field required.
• Familiarity with NEC/NESC codes is a plus.
• Proficiency with CAD tools including AutoCAD; Revit, Civil 3D, or MicroStation is valued.

Responsibilities

• Create structural and electrical layout drawings for substations and T&D infrastructure.
• Prepare and revise CAD drawings for high voltage substation projects (one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, control schematics).
• Develop substation layouts, grounding plans, conduit and cable routing, and pole/tower structures.
• Produce plan and profile drawings for overhead and underground lines; route maps and ROW drawings.
• Use AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit, or Civil 3D to generate/update drawings; prepare panel schedules and wiring diagrams.
• Ensure designs comply with NEC, NESC, IEEE standards and company drafting procedures.
• Incorporate engineer markups and QA/QC feedback; maintain version control of drawings.

Electrical Drafter I

Full Time — Space Center, Houston, TX, US

In this entry-level role, you will assist in preparing accurate technical drawings and schematics for electrical or civil disciplines with a primary focus on Substations and/or Transmission and Distribution Line design work. You will develop detailed drawings, 3D models, and construction documentation using CAD tools.

Responsibilities

• Create structural and electrical layout drawings for substations and T&D infrastructure.
• Assist in preparing and revising CAD drawings for high voltage substation projects, including:
• One-line diagrams
• Wiring diagrams
• Control schematics
• Substation layout and grounding plans
• Conduit and cable routing
• Equipment and structure arrangements
• Plan and profile drawings for overhead and underground lines
• Pole and tower structure layouts
• Route maps and right-of-way drawings
• Use CAD software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit, or Civil 3D to produce/update drawings
• Panel schedules, wiring diagrams, and circuit layouts
• Foundation and structural framing drawings for substation structures
• Site grading, fencing, and grounding grid plans
• Interpret engineering notes, redlines, and specifications to create accurate technical drawings
• Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes and standards, including NEC, NESC, IEEE, and company drafting procedures
• Revise drawings based on markups from engineers, QA/QC feedback, and as-built updates
• Organize and maintain drawing files, version control, and documentation using standard naming conventions
• Collaborate with drafters, engineers, and project managers across multiple disciplines (electrical, civil, structural)
• Perform other duties as requested by management or senior staff

Qualifications

• Associate degree or technical certification in drafting, electrical design, civil design, or a related field
• Internship or prior experience in electrical utility, substation, or structural design is preferred
• Familiarity with common substation components such as transformers, breakers, disconnects, relays, and bus structures for electrical-focused roles
• Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with Revit, AutoCAD Electrical, Civil 3D, or MicroStation is a plus
• Understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and/or National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) is a plus
• Basic knowledge of electrical and/or civil drafting standards and practices
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and engineering specifications
• Effective communication, teamwork, and time management abilities
• Willingness to learn and grow in civil/structural or electrical/protection & control disciplines
