Job summary

Pedernales Electric Cooperative seeks a distribution designer to plan and design residential, commercial, and industrial electric facilities, both overhead and underground, in Cedar Park, TX. You will coordinate with developers, government entities, and crews to ensure safe, compliant distribution designs and timely project execution.

The role requires an Associate’s Degree or equivalent experience and 3 years in electric utility distribution, with strong GIS, design, and permitting skills.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in a field related to electric utility distribution and power design, or equivalent experience.
• Three years of directly related work experience required.
• Valid Texas Driver’s License per PEC policy.

Responsibilities

• Meet with members, developers, contractors, and government entities to discuss processes for supplying electric power.
• Research, acquire records, prepare and verify required easements.
• Notarize easements as needed.
• Verify customer deed information is current and correct.
• Check ROW easements and obtain ROW permits as applicable.
• Obtain road crossing permits.
• Assess load to size transformers and notify material requirements.
• Coordinate CT/transformer socket needs with meter shop.
• Read and interpret blueprints and specs.
• Create designs and material lists for distribution facilities.
• Review AS-built drawings and correct as needed.
• Edit GIS for accuracy and connectivity.
• Draw distribution facilities in GIS.
• Call locates for equipment installation.
• Request vegetation work from Vegetation Maintenance.
• Investigate customer complaints and propose solutions.
• Send joint use letters.
• Inspect overhead and URD line extensions.
• Prepare cost estimates for extensions/relocations.
• Oversee projects to meet specs, timelines, and budgets.
• Record survey measurements and descriptive data.
• Use surveying instruments and tools.
• Coordinate with right of way and construction crews.
• Follow safety policy and line extension guidelines.
• Prepare small-scale designs with minimal supervision.
• Maintain vehicles and tools.
