Job summary

Pedernales Electric Cooperative is seeking a highly skilled design engineer to create residential, commercial, and feeder distribution layouts for overhead and underground facilities in the Austin area. You will interpret blueprints, develop materials lists, and coordinate with ROW, crews and planners while ensuring compliance with PEC safety and line extension policies.

• Knowledge of the National Electrical Code and the National Electric Safety Code requirements relevant to distribution design issues

• Experience with GIS and drawing distribution facilities
• Strong math and surveying knowledge

Responsibilities

• Research, acquire record, prepare, and verify required overhead or URD easements.
• Notarize easements as necessary per customer request.
• Research to ensure customer deed information is correct and up to date.
• Draw new distribution facilities within the GIS.
• Prepare cost estimates for new line extensions and relocations.
• Oversee project(s) to ensure completion on time and within budget.
• Record survey measurements and descriptive data using notes, drawings, sketches and plats.
• Operate PEC vehicle(s) for business purposes per PEC policies.

PHYSICAL OFFICE LOCATION:** 9115 Circle Drive, Austin, TX 78736

$30.66 Minimum Starting Base Pay* + KPI Bonuses + Competitive Benefits

**Range of pay: $30.66/hr. - $38.32/hr. mid point.**

**Position Summary**

This position is responsible for the design of residential, commercial, industrial, overhead and underground electric distribution facilities.

**Essential Duties & Responsibilities**

• Meet with members, developers and contractors, consultants, and government entities to discuss the process and procedures for supplying electric power. Meet as required to completion of distribution projects.
• Research, acquire record, prepare, and verify required overhead or URD easements.
• Notarize easements as necessary per customer request.
• Research to ensure customer deed information is correct and up dated.
• Check ROW easements. Obtain ROW permits if called for.
• Obtain road crossing permits.
• Assess load requirements to size correct transformer. Notify warehouse of material/ transformer requirements.
• Notify Meter shop of CT or Trans Socket requirements.
• Read and interpret blue prints and specifications.
• Create designs and materials lists for overhead and underground distribution facilities
• Review as builds. Correct as needed.
• Edit GIS to ensure accuracy and connectivity.
• Draw new distribution facilities within the Global Information System
• Call locates to insure equipment can be installed at location.
• Request vegetation clearing or trimming from Vegetation Maintenance Department.
• Investigate customer complaints. Determine problem and recommend solution(s).
• Send joint use letters
• Inspect Overhead and URD line extensions.
• Prepare cost estimates for new line extensions and relocations.
• Oversee project(s). Ensure projects are completed to specifications on time, and within budget.
• Record survey measurements and descriptive data using notes, drawings, sketches and plats
• Utilize surveying instruments such as prisms, theodolites and measuring equipment, chain saws and assorted tools
• Coordinate with right of way, construction crews, department planners and pole contacts departments
• Interpret, adhere to and enforce the company safety policy, the Line Extension Policy and the National Electric Safety Code
• Prepare small scale distribution design with minimal supervision
• Provide proper and routine maintenance and care for assigned vehicles and tools
• Operate PEC vehicle(s) for business purposes in accordance with applicable Federal, State, local law and PEC policies and procedures
• Maintain driver eligibility through appropriate valid Texas Driver's License and driving record in accordance with PEC policy
• Maintain the security of confidential information
• Stay abreast of advances in technology
• Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance

**Minimum Qualifications - (Education, Experience)**

• Associate's Degree in a field related to electric utility distribution and power design OR

**Physical Demands and Work Environment**

• The employee may be required to stand; reach with hands and arms, stoop and kneel
• The employee will be subject to rough terrain and inclement weather
• The employee may be required to be trained in the proper use of chain saws and hand tools
• The employee may be required to sit or stand for long periods of time
• The employee may be required to lift, carry, push, pull or move up to 50 pounds
• The employee may be required to travel
• The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions including wet and/or humid conditions
• Exempt employees receive a fixed bi-weekly salary to compensate them for all hours worked during each pay period
• This position may be required to work more than 40 hours per week
