Job summary

Tetra Tech is seeking an Electrical Designer with 8+ years of electrical design experience for our Arvada, CO location. You will lead electrical design efforts on complex projects, generate IFC deliverables, review bids, and mentor junior designers while collaborating with other disciplines.

The role requires in-office work for the first 6 months, with potential hybrid or remote work thereafter. Travel to client sites is expected, and a strong background in oil & gas is preferred.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of electrical design experience
  • Oil and Gas experience required
  • Class I, Division 2 area design experience preferred
  • Proficient with AutoCAD and related design tools
  • Ability to mentor less experienced electrical designers

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical design on projects with multiple designers
  • Create IFC deliverables: One-Line Diagrams, Schematics, Wiring Diagrams, Lighting Plans, Panel Schedules
  • Develop and size conduits, cable trays, and grounding plans
  • Review vendor submittals and bids for electrical equipment
  • Mentor and coordinate multi-discipline interfaces and ensure on-time delivery

The Opportunity

Your Role

Provide design support for E&I disciplines under supervision of Engineers and Lead Designers. The Designer contributes to construction drawings and related deliverables while learning industry standards, company procedures, and best practices. This role offers a growth path toward increased technical responsibility and design complexity.

Job Responsibilities
  • Electrical Design Lead for projects with multiple subordinate designers.
  • Generate issued for construction deliverables such as:
    • One-Line Diagrams
    • Schematics
    • Electrical Area Classification Plans
    • Wiring Diagrams
    • Lighting Plans & Details
    • Panel Schedules
    • Grounding Plans & Details
    • Conduit & Cable Schedules
    • J-box Design, BOM & Wiring Diagram
    • Conduit/Power Plans & Details
    • Cable specification and Sizing
    • Conduit Sizing
    • Instrument Location Plans
  • Cable tray modeling, design, details, and bill of materials.
  • Electric equipment specifications.
  • Perform technical reviews of electrical equipment bids.
  • Review vendor submittals.
  • IFC deliverables checking.
  • Maintain schedules and report on work progress.
  • Mentoring of less experienced electrical designers.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with other disciplines.
  • Develop and improve technical/management knowledge and skills.
  • Travel to Client offices and production facilities.
Qualifications
  • 8+ years’ electrical design experience.
  • Oil and Gas experience.
  • Class I, Div 2 area design experience.
  • Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD 2022 or newer.
  • Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD 3D.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experienced with Bluebeam Revu.
  • Experience with Autodesk Navisworks Freedom.
  • Experience with Microsoft Teams.
  • Capability to lead and work multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to accept directions and feedback.
  • Mentor less experienced electrical designers.
  • Availability to work in office for first 6 months of employment.
Preferred (Not Required)
  • CADWorx experience.
  • Experience working in the field.
  • Pharmaceutical experience.
  • Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) experience.
  • Electric heat trace design and specification.
  • Familiarity with Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID).
  • Experience with typical instrumentation IFC deliverables, instrument location plans, loop diagrams, control panel design, BOM, and schematics.
Target Salary Range

$50.00 to 55.00/hr. Please note that Tetra Tech considers numerous factors in determining pay, including but not limited to education, relevant and demonstrated work experience in the role, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business.

Physical Requirements
  • Constantly required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Constantly use hands to keyboard or type, handle materials, or manipulate objects.
  • Light work that includes lifting and/or moving up to 20 pounds and, occasionally, up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently moving about to accomplish tasks.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this classification include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing abilities required by this classification includes those which permit the employee to discern verbal instructions and communicate effectively in person and by telephone.
  • Requires composure and ability to prioritize and manage several urgent tasks and requests simultaneously with a high level of competence and accuracy.
  • Occasionally climbing stairs and ladders to read meters at active facility sites.
Work Environment / Environmental Factors

Environmental factors mostly consist of work being conducted in an indoor office environment, but are not limited to extreme temperatures (e.g., cold, heat), fumes, variable weather conditions, outdoor work, and noise due to some travel & work on worksites.

  • Must work in office for first 6 months of employment. After this period, a hybrid or remote work schedule can be considered.
