Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Designer with at least 5 years of hands-on experience in heavy industrial projects to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating detailed electrical design packages, 3D models, and drafting deliverables for complex facilities, including oil & gas, ethanol, bulk material handling, and advanced manufacturing environments.

The ideal candidate possesses deep working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and proficiency across core industry software, including AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks. You will work closely with electrical engineers, multi-discipline project teams, and clients to ensure designs are safe, constructible, and compliant with all technical standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Electrical Design & Layout: Develop detailed electrical physical layouts, single-line diagrams (SLDs), schematic diagrams, conduit/cable tray routing, grounding systems, lighting layouts, and hazardous area classification plans.
• 3D Modeling & Coordination: Build and maintain high-quality 3D electrical models in Revit; perform spatial coordination and clash detection using Navisworks alongside structural, mechanical, and piping disciplines.
• NEC Compliance: Apply National Electrical Code (NEC) guidelines to electrical systems, equipment clearances, conduit/wire sizing, and hazardous location classifications (Class I/II, Div 1/2).
• Deliverable Production: Prepare complete, accurate, and constructible engineering drawing packages suitable for bidding, procurement, and construction.
• Site & Equipment Coordination: Assist in specifying electrical equipment layouts (MCCs, switchgear, transformers, variable frequency drives, control panels) and verify field conditions as required.
• Project Support: Participate in project model reviews, interdisciplinary design coordination meetings, and provide technical support during construction and commissioning phases.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of electrical design experience specifically focused on heavy industrial environments (oil & gas, ethanol/biofuels, bulk material handling, or manufacturing).
• Code Knowledge: Strong proficiency with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and familiarity with relevant industry standards (NFPA 70/70E, IEEE, NEMA).
• Software Proficiency:
• AutoCAD: Advanced 2D drafting and schematic layout skills.
• Revit: Proven 3D modeling experience for electrical systems and building information modeling (BIM).
• Navisworks: Experience using Navisworks for 3D model reviews, clash detection, and design coordination.

Preferred Education & Certifications

• Education: Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree or Vocational Certificate in:
• Computer-Aided Design (CAD)

• (Equivalent practical trade/industrial drafting experience will also be considered)
