Stantec Consulting International Ltd. is seeking an Electrical Designer to support the Buildings Government Services team in Richmond, VA.

The role involves learning on the job under supervision, evaluating electrical power, lighting, fire alarm and other low voltage systems, and performing design tasks using Revit and AutoCAD. The position requires a basic understanding of electrical engineering concepts, collaboration in project teams, and familiarity with Revit/AutoCAD.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Co-op/Internship experience in an A/E firm preferred.
  • EIT credentials and/or pursuing licensure a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Interprets drawings, codes and related materials with guidance.
  • Creates electrical design documentation using Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Performs engineering calculations for building electrical systems.
  • Coordinates with architecture and other disciplines under senior guidance.
  • Conducts field work as directed by senior staff.
  • Assists with engineering duties on projects of varying complexity.

Your Opportunity

Our Buildings Government Services team is looking for an Electrical Designer. You will work with close guidance and supervision on project tasks, and as a team member of larger projects under the guidance of a Senior Engineer/Designer. You will assist in evaluating, selecting, specifying, and engineering electrical power, lighting, fire alarm and other low voltage systems and products for projects verifying compliance with applicable codes and internal engineering standards / practices. You will perform a variety of tasks which may include Revit and AutoCAD design, engineering calculations, and field work.

Your Key Responsibilities

*Note: many of these responsibilities will be learning on the job as opposed to expectations starting the job

  • Conducts basic interpretations of drawings, codes, and other similar materials.

  • Creates electrical design documentation for the electrical discipline using knowledge of relevant software programs such as Revit and AutoCAD.

  • Performs engineering calculations to analyze and design individual building electrical system components using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.

  • Works with architectural, interior designers, and other engineering disciplines in the coordination of the project under the direction of a senior engineer/ designer.

  • Performs field work as directed by a senior engineer/ designer.

  • Assists with engineering duties on projects of various complexity.

  • Assists with collecting data and gathering information to support design decisions.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the senior engineering staff.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Basic understanding of electrical engineering concepts and the ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.

  • Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.

  • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, building program and other similar material.

  • Ability to take direction, follow process and accept feedback and suggestions from senior engineers/designers.

  • Basic understanding of Revit and AutoCAD, and the use of it as a drafting/design tool, is preferred but not required.

  • Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Prefer experience with AGI 32, Visual Lighting Software, SKM, Newforma (but not required).

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.

  • Previous co-op/Internship experience for an A/E firm preferred.

  • EIT credentials and/or interest in pursuing licensure a plus.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range

Locations in MN, OH, VT, & Various CA, ME, NY, VA Areas-$69,800.00 - $97,700.00 Annually
