Overview

Posting Title: Electrical Designer (Commercial Experience)

Reports To: Supervising Electrical Engineer

Location: San Jose, California - Hybrid / Onsite 2 days a week

Salary Range: $108,000 to $143,000

The Engineering Team

With an in-house team of electrical engineers, designers, VDC coordinators and CAD operators, our resources rival those of standalone engineering firms. We are a true provider of turnkey electrical solutions—from design to delivery. As a part of this department, you can expect to work closely with our project management and field installation teams to streamline the construction process.

About the Role

Engineer Level 3: Independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making adaptations and modifications. Assignments have clear and specified objectives. This level requires developmental experience in a professional position or equivalent graduate-level education. Receives instructions on specific assignment objectives, complex features, and possible solutions. Assistance is furnished on unusual problems. Work is reviewed for correctness and application of the QAQC Process and professional judgment. Includes responsibilities and tasks outlined in Engineer Levels 1 – 2.

Responsibilities

• Supervisory Responsibilities: May supervise or coordinate the work of other designers and CAD/VDC production team.
• Essential Job Functions: Perform progressively independent design of power and lighting systems.
• Essential Job Functions: Perform design tasks assigned by Designers or Engineers.
• Essential Job Functions: Markup of the electrical power and lighting systems/ preparation of drawings.
• Essential Job Functions: Assemble design drawings and documents and provide or coordinate delivery.
• Essential Job Functions: Utilize software tools to perform broad range of engineering calculations and report.
• Essential Job Functions: Prepare and coordinates portions of design effort and project scope requirements.
• Other Functions: Increased interaction with Project manager, external design team and information management.
• Other Functions: Maintain professional and technical development goals to acquire PE certification.
• Other Functions: Mentor Designers.
• Other Functions: Obtain Professional Development and Training.

Other Responsibilities

• Thorough understanding of the Engineering department's design and CAD/VDC workflows.
• Thorough understanding of CEI's business inter-department functions.
• Thorough proficient use of AutoCAD - MEP/REVIT, CAD and file management.
• Thorough proficient understanding of fundamental power & lighting systems.
• Thorough understanding of the various State and National CODES governing our work.
• Provide Conformance to the Standards and processes outlined by the CAD/VDC Manager.
• Support team and department objectives for individual and department development.

Knowledge

A seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization; resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways. This job is the fully qualified, career-oriented, journey-level position.

Job Complexity

Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Networks with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise.

Supervision

Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments.

About You

• Basic Microsoft Office applications, AutoCAD - MEP/REVIT - Etap/SKM (desired)
• Good time management, communication and people skills
• Engineer in Training (EIT) certified desired

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: Electrical Engineering or similar Bachelor of Science degree

Licensure/Certifications: Engineer-in-Training Certification (EIT) certified desire

Experience: 4-6 years working for an electrical design firm or design build electrical contractor. Solar electrical systems background.
