Job summary

Boston Government Services is seeking an Electrical Designer to support the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The role focuses on drafting and design coordination within the Y-12 Division Managed Design Engineering Field Design Support group, performing data sheets, specs, and walkdowns.

The ideal candidate will have an associate degree or higher in a technical field (or 13+ years of related experience), experience with power distribution and industrial controls, and

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in a technical field; or a high school diploma with 13+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience with low and medium voltage power distribution and industrial control systems.
• Familiarity with NFPA 70, NFPA 79, and UL508A.
• Ability to support construction and operational activities related to design outputs.
• Field walkdowns in radiologically contaminated areas.

• Drafting in Bentley MicroStation including one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, lighting and power plans.
• Prepare data sheets, specifications, and walkdown reports.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers and CAD drafters within the group.

Electrical Designer at Boston Government Services (BGS) supports our clients at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

The Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, TN, provides manufacturing, technical, and scientific capabilities to sustain a U.S. nuclear deterrent and support national security missions. Y-12 collaborates with federal agencies and industry partners on projects related to nuclear technology, security, manufacturing, and technical services.

About the Role

The Electrical Designer will work in the Y-12 Division Managed Design Engineering Field Design Support group.

Responsibilities

• Drafting in Bentley MicroStation, including one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, lighting/power plans, installation details, instrumentation and controls diagrams, conduit and cable schedules, and fire alarm and communication drawings.
• Prepare data sheets, specifications, and walkdown reports.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers and other CAD drafters within the same work group.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Associate degree or higher in a technical field with a minimum of six years of related experience; or a high school diploma with 13+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience with low and medium voltage power distribution and industrial control systems.
• Experience with NFPA 70, NFPA 79, and UL508A.
• Ability to support construction and operational activities related to design outputs.
• Field walkdowns required in radiologically contaminated areas.
• U.S. citizen status.
• Successful drug screening.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain a security or clearance badge.
• U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance; consideration with or without current clearance.

Location/Work Arrangement

• Fully onsite position at the Y-12 National Security Complex, Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
• Little to no travel (<5%). Typical schedule: Mon–Thu, 10-hour days (4/10 schedule).
