Job summary

Gibbs & Cox, a wholly owned subsidiary of Leidos, seeks a Naval Electrical Senior Designer in Newport News, VA. You will produce detailed electrical ship systems designs, 3D models, diagrams, and 2D drawings for naval and commercial ships, ensuring compliance with standards and regulatory requirements.

You will collaborate closely with naval architects and engineers, translating complex specifications into precise drawings and models while adhering to project timelines and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Associate's Degree or two years of relevant experience in lieu of an Associate's Degree.
  • Five or more years of experience translating specification requirements into detailed ship design products and drawings.
  • Electrical design experience in naval and/or commercial shipbuilding programs.
  • Experience with PDF editing programs (Bluebeam preferred).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2014 or later.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling.
  • Knowledge of standards and regulatory body requirements.
  • Demonstrated drafting methods, procedures, and techniques.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Strong MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills.
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.
  • Strong time management and organization as an independent contributor.
  • Interpersonal skills as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and detailed designs, free-form surface models, and drawings from concept sketches, photos, scans, or stated requirements.
  • Collaborate with clients, naval architects, engineers, and design team members to produce high-quality ship design products and drawings.

Are you a skilled electrical designer with a passion for ship design? Gibbs and Cox are seeking a talented Naval Electrical Senior Designer to join our team in Newport News, VA. As a member of our dynamic and highly collaborative Ship Design team, you will be crucial in producing intricate distributive electrical ship systems designs, 3D models, diagrams, and 2D drawings for ship construction and modification. You will work closely with our team to ensure that all designs adhere to strict ship specifications, standards, and regulatory body requirements for Naval, Coast Guard, and Commercial ships.

The Challenge:
  • Prepare accurate and detailed designs, free-form surface models, and/or drawings based on concept sketches, photographs, scans, or clearly stated functional requirements.
  • Work closely with our clients, naval architects, engineers, and design team members to produce high-quality, detailed ship design products and drawings.
Basic Qualifications:
  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Associate's Degree or two (2) years of relevant experience in lieu of an Associate's Degree.
  • Five (5) + years of experience translating specification requirements and incorporating standards, requirements, design practices, and techniques into detailed ship design, drawings, and other finished design products distributive ship electrical systems.
  • Electrical Design experiencein Naval and/or commercial Shipbuilding programs.
  • Experience with PDF Editing Programs (Bluebeam Preferred).
  • Proficiency in AUTOCAD 2014 or later is required.
  • Proficiency in 3-D modeling is required.
  • Knowledge of standards and regulatory body requirements is a plus.
