Job summary

Bechtel Corporation seeks an experienced Electrical Engineer for the Houston API facility project. You will plan, develop, and review electrical design work, producing drawings and estimates, while coordinating with clients and other disciplines to ensure regulatory compliance.

Role requires strong leadership, design verification, and the ability to solve complex technical issues across construction, ES&H, quality, and project controls. Houston-based, full-time office/project environment.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of NEC, NEMA, ANSI, IEEE standards.
• Advanced experience with AutoCAD, Revit, S3D, Navisworks.
• Modeling electrical equipment, cable tray, conduit.
• Experience with SETROUTE or equivalent cable management.
• Experience in hyperscale data centers, life sciences, or high-reliability facilities is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems, schematics, and layouts.
• Ability to resolve design issues with multiple disciplines.

Project Overview

Bechtel’s Manufacturing and Technology (M&T) business unit is supporting the Eli Lilly Houston project, a major active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing facility in the Houston, Texas area. This complex, highly regulated project expands Bechtel’s life sciences portfolio and requires strong field leadership, disciplined planning, safe execution, and close coordination across construction, field engineering, ES&H, quality, project controls, startup, supply chain, and subcontractor teams.

Job Summary

In this role, you will plan, develop, and review electrical engineering design work, produce drawings and documentation, and prepare design estimates for a project. You will coordinate with clients, facilitate technical discussions, and review key electrical drawings, calculations, and bid summaries. You will solve complex technical issues and ensure electrical designs comply with all regulations and standards.

Major Responsibilities

• Supporting, coaching, and training less experienced designers.
• Develops designs for complete and complex electrical engineering systems such as electrical rooms, equipment, cable tray, conduit, duct bank, and lighting with minimum supervision from which detailed scale models and/or construction drawings are completed.
• Assists with coordination of 3D model activities, i.e. input, interference reconciliation, etc. with other physical related disciplines.
• Works with designers in other disciplines to coordinate overall design and technical requirements.
• Prepares or assists with the preparation of assigned material requisitions and bid evaluations.
• Monitors and checks work for compliance with approved electrical design standards to provide quality design, reliable/safe plant operation, and construction economy.
• Participates in constructability reviews.
• Prepares design and drafting procedures to standardize design effort.
• Coordinates or makes jobsite visits, as required, to resolve problems and interpret drawings and documents.
• Reviews electrical design scope changes, as required, for project management.
• Ensures electrical systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.

Education And Experience Requirements

Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience [OR] 12-14 years of relevant work experience in lieue of a degree.

Required Knowledge And Skills

• Knowledge & application of NEC code and NEMA/ANSI/IEEE and other industry standards.
• Advanced experience using AutoCAD, Revit, S3D and Navisworks.
• Prior experience in modeling of electrical equipment, cable tray, and conduit.
• Prior experience with an electronic Cable Management System, such as the SETROUTE program.
• Prior experience supporting hyperscale data centers, semiconductor manufacturing, life sciences, or other high-reliability industrial facilities is preferred.
• Prior experience in cable tray, raceway, lighting, and cable routing design.
• Prior experience in bulk material quantity takeoffs.
• Knowledge of electrical installation details and materials.
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems, schematics, and layouts.
• Ability to resolve design issues independently and collaboratively with other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client.
• Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
