Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Computer/Software Engineering with 1 year relevant experience OR equivalent
  • GPA ≥ 3.0 generally
  • Experience with analog/digital/RF designs incl. simulations, schematics, PCB layouts
  • Experience with electrical engineering tools
  • Awareness of manufacturability impacts

Responsibilities

  • Lead or participate as Project Engineer for small projects as part of a greater project
  • Design test boards and circuit modifications to test design improvements
  • Source and analyze components to meet electrical design needs
  • Test circuits and document results
  • Find root causes and propose corrective actions
  • Work with factory to understand manufacturability impacts
  • Estimate effort and evaluate design options in design reviews

Job description

Overview

We are seeking a full-time Electrical/Design Engineer - Outdoor Optics at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and project planning for complex analog, digital, and/or RF designs for Golf and other outdoor field and sporting optics products that are new for Garmin.

Essential Functions
  • Proficiently use troubleshooting and general EE tools (e.g. multimeters, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, schematic design and PCB layout programs, etc.)
  • May perform as a technical leader or Project Engineer for small projects or sub projects as part of a greater project, following established procedures
  • Design test boards and circuit modifications to test design improvements
  • Source and analyze appropriate components to meet electrical engineering design needs
  • Test circuits designed by other engineers and document the test results
  • Find technical root cause and suggest corrective action for given problems
  • Work with the factory team to understand design impacts on manufacturability
  • Estimate level of effort, evaluate new options of similar technology, offer suggestions to improve processes, and provide comments and suggestions on some electrical design aspects in design reviews
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or related field AND a minimum of 1 year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrated ability with application of design standards and procedures to design and develop moderately complex analog, digital and/or RF designs including simulations, schematics, PCB layouts and evaluation
  • Demonstrated ability with electrical engineering tools
  • Demonstrated knowledge of design impacts on manufacturability
Desired Qualifications
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Previous work or internship experience with circuit design for consumer or aviation products
