Job summary

Delta Electronics Americas is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to lead the electrical design for BESS, microgrid and utility-scale projects from the Raleigh (Morrisville) or Detroit-area offices. You will develop single-line diagrams, coordinate with control teams, and support project execution through FAT/SAT and commissioning.

Responsibilities include sizing MV up to 35 kV and LV equipment, performing grounding, protection, and harmonic analyses, and preparing specifications

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering; MS a plus.
  • 5+ years electrical design in BESS/microgrid/utility PV/industrial power/substation; 8+ for senior.
  • Knowledge of NEC/NFPA 855, IEEE 1547-2018, IEEE 519, and IEEE C37 series.
  • Hands-on load-flow, short-circuit, arc-flash with ETAP/SKM/EasyPower/Auto Electric.
  • Ability to read/produce single-line diagrams and schematics; AutoCAD Electrical.
  • On-site work at Raleigh (Morrisville) or Detroit-area; 15–25% travel.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Develop L1/L2 diagrams and studies for BESS + PV + genset microgrids 500 kW–200 MW.
  • Size and specify MV up to 35 kV and LV equipment.
  • Perform grounding, cable sizing, voltage-drop, and harmonic analyses; stamp packages where required.
  • Prepare equipment specifications, tech bid evaluations, and RFQ packages for utility-grade BOS.
  • Serve as electrical engineer of record across RFQ to commissioning; coordinate with utility interconnection engineers.
  • Own AHJ / submittal packages (NEC, NFPA 855 for BESS, NFPA 70E); coordinate stamped drawings with PE.
  • Track electrical scope on cost, schedule, quality; resolve RFIs, change orders, punch lists.

Key Responsibilities
Electrical Design
  • Develop single‑line diagrams, three‑line diagrams, protection one‑lines, and load flow / short‑circuit / arc‑flash studies for BESS + PV + genset microgrids from 500 kW to 200 MW.
  • Size and specify medium‑voltage (up to 35 kV) and low‑voltage equipment: transformers, switchgear, breakers, PCS, BESS enclosures, PV inverters, and auxiliary loads.
  • Perform grounding, cable sizing, conduit fill, voltage‑drop, and harmonic (IEEE 519) analyses; issue stamped calculation packages where required.
  • Author equipment specifications, technical bid evaluations, and RFQ packages for utility‑grade balance‑of‑plant.
Protection & Control Interface
  • Develop protection schemes (50/51, 27/59, 81/ROCOF, 25, 32, 87) and coordinate settings with IEDs; validate anti‑islanding and ride‑through per IEEE 1547‑2018 / UL 1741‑SB / IEEE 2800 as applicable.
  • Partner with the controls team on IEC 61850 GOOSE / MMS mapping, SCADA point lists, RTAC I/O schedules, and PCC metering.
  • Support commissioning of grid‑forming and grid‑following modes, black‑start sequencing, seamless islanding, and PCC resynchronization.
Project Execution
  • Serve as the electrical engineer of record across RFQ, award, detailed design, procurement, factory acceptance test (FAT), site acceptance test (SAT), and commissioning phases.
  • Coordinate with utility interconnection engineers through application, study, and witness‑testing milestones.
  • Own the AHJ / township submittal package: NEC, NFPA 855 (BESS), NFPA 70E, IBC / IFC compliance, and stamped drawings via licensed PE where required.
  • Track electrical scope on cost, schedule, and quality; drive resolution of RFIs, change orders, and site punch lists.
Required Qualifications
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems concentration preferred); M.S. a plus.
  • 5+ years of electrical design experience in one or more of: BESS, microgrid, utility‑scale PV, industrial power, or substation engineering. Senior candidates: 8+ years.
  • Working knowledge of NEC (NFPA 70), NFPA 855 for energy storage, IEEE 1547‑2018, IEEE 519, and IEEE C37 protection series.
  • Hands‑on experience with ETAP, SKM PowerTools, EasyPower, or Auto Electric for load‑flow, short‑circuit, arc‑flash, and protection coordination.
  • Comfort reading and producing single‑line diagrams, control schematics, and cable schedules; AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent.
  • Ability to work on‑site at the Raleigh (Morrisville) or Detroit‑area office and travel to project sites 15–25% of the time.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in NC, MI, or ability to obtain reciprocity within 12 months.
  • Direct commissioning experience with grid‑forming inverters, battery energy storage systems, or hybrid PV+BESS plants.
  • Familiarity with IEC 61850 (GOOSE / MMS / SV), SEL RTAC platforms, DNP3, and Modbus TCP.
  • Experience interfacing with utility interconnection processes under FERC 2222, IEEE 1547.1 conformance, or ISO/RTO market participation rules.
