Job summary

Abbott is seeking a Research Scientist Contractor to support the development and implementation of NGS-based molecular diagnostic tests, including multi-cancer early detection solutions. The role focuses on verification and validation studies, experimental design, data analysis, and documentation.

The position requires designing complex lab experiments, strong data interpretation, and experience with regulated environments. Onsite work and collaboration with multiple teams are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 6+ years of relevant experience, Master's with 4+ years, or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline.
• Strong experience designing and executing complex laboratory experiments.
• Hands-on experience with NGS / Next-Generation Sequencing and molecular biology techniques.
• Experience with molecular diagnostics, assay development, or assay validation.
• Strong quantitative data analysis and scientific interpretation skills.
• Experience with laboratory operations and/or laboratory management.
• Excellent technical writing and scientific documentation skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional and regulated environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, lead, and execute complex verification and validation studies for NGS-based molecular diagnostic assays.
• Perform laboratory experiments and analyze quantitative data to evaluate assay performance.
• Interpret study results and recommend appropriate follow-up studies or improvements.
• Collaborate with bioinformatics, biostatistics, regulatory, clinical, medical, and quality teams.
• Develop and review protocols, technical reports, procedures, and study documentation.
• Present scientific findings and project updates to cross-functional teams and leadership.
• Support laboratory operations, process improvements, and quality systems.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior laboratory staff.
• Support activities related to product development, clinical laboratory implementation, and regulatory submissions.

• Familiarity with CAP/CLIA laboratory requirements.
• Experience supporting FDA regulatory submissions, PMA, or IDE activities.Experience working with bioinformatics and biostatistics teams.
• Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS).
• Previous experience mentoring or providing technical leadership to junior scientists.
