Job summary

Caterpillar is hiring an Electrical Design Engineer in Alpharetta, GA, to design and develop low/medium voltage switchgear for generator paralleling applications.

You will interpret customer drawings, create BOMs in ERP, guide CAD wiring drawings, and support production. PLC programming experience with Schneider/Allen Bradley and UL508A enclosure design exposure are highly valued.

  • Support production during equipment manufacturing and testing.
  • Write and validate PLC code for generator control systems.

Caterpillar Switchgear, part of the Electric Power Division, currently has an opening for an Electrical Design Engineer located in Alpharetta, Georgia. In this role, you will design, develop and build, Low and Medium voltage switchgear for generator paralleling applications. What you will do:

  • Interpret customer specifications and drawings, and apply them while considering industry regulations and NEC, UL 508, UL 891,UL 1558, UL MV, CSA 22-2, and ANSI requirements
  • Create bill of materials in ERP system
  • Provide direction to purchasing and procurement
  • Provide direction to CAD designers to create wiring and assembly drawings
  • Support production during equipment manufacturing
  • Write and validate PLC code for generator control systems, interfacing with various communication protocols
  • Degree Requirement:
  • Associate's degree in Engineering, Engineering Tecnhology or related program
  • What You Will Have:
  • Analytical Thinking: Extensive experience and knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Effective Communication: Working knowledge and understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Managing Multiple Priorities: Working knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.
  • Technical Excellence: Working experience and knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
  • Product Design – MFG: Extensive experience and knowledge of processes, approaches, tools and techniques of product design; ability to convert customer and market requirements into product design.
  • Product Design and Development: Working knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production. Top Candidates Will Also Have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • PLC experience with Schneider and/or Allen Bradley
  • Experienced with UL508A control enclosure design
  • Power Engineering and Multi-Function Relay Programming/ Operation Additional Information
  • The location for this position is Alpharetta, GA and requires 5-day a week on-site availability

Pay Range

$97,530.00 - $146,290.00 Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
