Job summary

Astec is seeking an Electrical Drafter/Engineer to create electrical drawings and associated documents for the Electrical Engineering Department. You will work with multiple departments to determine customer requirements for electrical and control components.

Responsibilities include preparing detailed electrical drawings, bills of materials, routing, and notes; processing orders; and assisting in determining power requirements and installations. Some travel and overtime may be required.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or a minimum of two years of equivalent knowledge/experience in a related field.
• Experience with AutoCAD.
• Knowledge of the National Electric Code and UL requirements.
• Ability to select proper components, size starters, breakers, wiring and conduit.
• Ability to read electrical ladder diagrams and mechanical drawings.
• Ability to troubleshoot electrical circuits.
• Knowledge of PLC's/No Programming Required.
• Willingness to travel occasionally and work overtime as needed.

• Processes sales orders and work orders.
• Interacts with Engineering, Sales, Service to determine/confirm customer requirements
• Coordinates with Procurement to ensure long lead time items may be identified and addressed
• Assists in determining power requirements, troubleshooting of electrical systems, and aiding in installations and permitting for customers.
• Supports as necessary lending assistance in electrical and controls troubleshooting.
• Supports the work order process by attending sales order meetings to gather/confirm electrical design requirements.
• Collaborative electrical print checking
• Timely and accurate correction/resolution of drawing errors
• Engage in Continuous Improvement projects and activities as assigned.

About The Position

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Manufacturing Environment

Shop manufacturing environment exposures include exposure to moving mechanical parts, machinery, tools and equipment, vibration, fumes or airborne particles, motorized vehicles, welding and machining operations, outside weather conditions and exposure to the risk of electric shock. The employee may occasionally be required to use protective personal equipment for varying levels of dirt, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, very warm and/or very chilly temperatures. The noise level in the shop can be very loud at times consistent with an industrial assembly facility and may require hearing protection.
