The Electrical Controls Technician will work to design, test, improve, and support equipment designed by MiTek for the truss manufacturing industry. In this position you will work on robust machinery support and modifications that help customers to improve their production output. Electrical Controls Technicians debug and update control components such as PLCs, safety instrumentation and controllers, VFDs and servo drives. You will troubleshoot, update and support production and/or customers with the entire machinery control system using schematics, control panel and electrical assembly drawings and be involved in every stage of the system from concept to production. Electrical Controls Technicians work closely with Electrical, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineers, as well as Production, Software, Customer Service teams to ensure a successful product.
Update, evaluate, and support automated industrial machinery products with focus in the Component Manufacturing (CM) and off-site construction industry
Lead outside team members through troubleshooting and root cause/corrective actions
Create supporting documentation as it relates to machinery repairs and troubleshooting
Integrate, test, update, and debug NFPA79/NEC/UL508A compliant electrical control panels, parts and assemblies using industry best practices at an intermediate level
Integrate, test, update, and debug industrial PLCs, VFDs, Servo drives at an intermediate level
Integrate, test, update, and debug Industrial Machinery safety standards compliant safety instrumentation and controllers at an intermediate level
Develop and maintain project engineering drawings using AutoCAD Electrical (i.e. schematics, enclosures, control panel layouts, electrical assembly etc.)
Develop and maintain project documentation (i.e. system requirements, equipment manuals, test plans, project notes, etc.)
Ensure compliance with MiTek engineering procedures, guidelines, industry standards, and governmental regulations applicable to industrial machinery
Enter new and/or update existing data in MRP/ERP systems
Support Manufacturing, Marketing & Sales, Purchasing, Installation, and Customer Service teams throughout a product’s lifecycle
Review/stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies
Design and execute testing of both mechanical and electrical components. Provide design feedback and opportunities based upon the testing
Provide hands on assembly, wiring, startup of prototype machinery
Visit customer sites and troubleshoot machinery as needed to support install and automation support teams
Create new solutions to issues including specifying new components and creating engineering drawings to accompany
Bachelors in Electrical Engineering preferred, or equivalent combination of experience and education which clearly indicates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position may substitute on a year for year basis
2+ years of hands‑on experience with electrical controls systems required
Advanced diagnostic experience of power distribution, circuit breakers, and terminal blocks required
Intermediate knowledge with AutoCAD Electrical or willingness to improve knowledge required
Experience with PLCs, motor controllers, VFDs, servos, and sensors, and willingness improve knowledge preferred
Experience with safety controllers and willingness to improve knowledge preferred
Ability to perform mathematical skills such as calculating proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume and able to apply concepts of basic geometry
Ability to read and understand prints and schematics
Ability to use small hand‑power tools, including reading a tape measure with 1/32-inch increments
Ability to use Microsoft Office Applications
Strong communication skills to interact frequently with different teams
10%-20% of traveling as needed for critical on‑site activities
