Job summary

Aptiv is seeking an Electrical Controls Engineer to support high-speed metal stamping operations in North America, focusing on machine vision and control systems. You will identify improvements, program vision systems, and manage equipment revisions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Ideal candidates have a BS in Engineering/Electrical, strong communication, and the ability to work with teams at all levels.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology (Electrical preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site support to manufacturing operations in order to maintain production processes.
  • Troubleshoot process issues with skilled tradesmen.
  • Improve processes through identifying daily manufacturing problems (e.g., error proofing quality, improving uptime, cycle speed, reduction in waste).
  • Develop expertise in metal stamping operations control systems, particularly vision system programming, terminal presses, winding equipment and related sub-processes.
  • Obtain quotes, write purchase requisitions for project needs, and manage spending on projects for new or existing equipment revisions.
  • Communicate project or assignment status through verbal and written communication.
  • Develop maintenance procedures and support plant maintenance activities.
  • Keep current on new technology within the stamping industry for new manufacturing systems.
  • Follow all Aptiv corporate and local procedures.

YOUR ROLE

The Connection Systems North America (CS NA) team has an exciting opportunity for a Controls (Electrical preferred) Engineer. Under the direction of the Manufacturing Engineering General Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing on‑site engineering support within the high speed metal stamping operation, primarily for machine vision. The Controls Engineer will identify and implement improvements and align new technologies within the stamping industry to update manufacturing systems.

In your daily job you will:

  • Provide on‑site support to manufacturing operations in order maintain production processes
  • Troubleshoot process issues with skilled tradesmen
  • Improve processes through the identification of daily manufacturing problems (ex: error proofing quality, improving up‑time, cycle speed, reduction in waste, etc.)
  • Develop expertise in metal stamping operations control systems, particularly vision system programming, terminal presses, winding equipment and all other sub processes
  • Obtain quotes, write purchase requisitions for project needs, maintain control of spending on projects for new equipment and existing equipment revisions
  • Communicate projects or specific assignment status through verbal and written communication
  • Develop planned maintenance procedures as well as support plant maintenance activities
  • Keep current on new technology within the stamping industry for new manufacturing systems
  • Follow all Aptiv Corporate and local procedures

YOUR BACKGROUND

Key skills and competencies for succeeding in this role are:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology (Electrical preferred)
  • Ability to work effectively with people at all levels in an organization
  • Strong results‑orientation and execution characteristics
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

Nice to Haves (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience in developing/programming machine vision systems (Cognex software a plus).
  • Machine controls aptitude, machinery and equipment electrical support and machine control programming (Rockwell software a plus).
  • Experience in equipment communication, networking, integration, etc.
  • Prior plant process support, experience in electrical support of stamping presses, servo feeds, machine vision, robotics (Fanuc a plus), IT communications, etc.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Project, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.).
  • Ability to effectively organize, prioritize and accomplish multiple conflicting tasks, make intelligent, timely decisions and solve problems independently
  • Resourcefully innovate and adapt in a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to work in a unionized environment.

Minimal domestic and/or international travel possible - very limited to special circumstances.
