Job summary

McGard LLC is seeking an Electrical Control Technician I for 2nd shift (3:00pm – 11:30pm) in Orchard Park, NY. The role involves designing, programming, and installing electrical and PLC-controlled equipment in a manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED and 2 years of manufacturing experience, with knowledge of electrical schematics and Allen‑Bradley PLCs. Strong English communication is required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two-year degree preferred.
  • Two years’ experience in a manufacturing setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of security and fire alarm systems.
  • Two years’ experience with interpreting electrical schematics.
  • Knowledge of control software systems and PLC/HMI programming.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in continuing education to complete required training and maintain skills.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems and industrial equipment.
  • Test operations of equipment and controls for safety and efficiency.
  • Test electrical and electronic equipment for continuity, current, voltage, and resistance.
  • Modify and troubleshoot PLC controls for proper machine function.
  • Order materials for fabrication of equipment with proper approvals.
  • Inspect circuits for shielding and grounding.
  • Maintain operation and maintenance manuals for machines.
  • Provide technical assistance on new or in-plant equipment.
  • Troubleshoot equipment to determine root cause and recommend repair methods.
  • Use computer tools to troubleshoot, monitor equipment, and file maintenance requests.
  • Trained and participate as a member of the Fire Brigade Team.

Shift Schedule
  • 2nd shift: 3:00pm – 11:30pm, Monday – Friday
Pay Rate
  • $28.00 - $36/hour DOE plus 10% shift differential
Responsibility

Following National Electrical Codes and good wiring skills, designs, programs, and performs installations related to Electrical and PLC controlled Equipment.

Job Duties
  • Participates in continuing education to successfully complete required training and/or maintain any current required skills or credentials necessary for this position (i.e. First Aid).
  • Assist in troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems and industrial equipment such as motors, starters, relays, solid state circuitry, electro-mechanical components, AC and DC Variable speed drives, Servo motors and associated controllers.
  • Tests operations of equipment and controls for safety and efficiency using standard test equipment and by observing functions.
  • Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage, and resistance.
  • Modify and troubleshoot simple PLC controls as required for proper machine functions with laptop/PC and associated software.
  • With proper approval, orders necessary materials and supplies for fabrication of equipment.
  • Inspects circuits for specified shielding and grounding.
  • Assist in maintaining operational and maintenance manuals as required for machines fabricated or modified.
  • Assist in resolving problems, delays and difficulties. Notify supervisor of problems.
  • Considering personal and coworker safety, complete all job assignments in an expedient manner.
  • Provide technical assistance on new or in-plant equipment.
  • Troubleshoots equipment to determine root cause of the problem. Recommend method of repair.
  • Use a computer (as necessary) to assist in troubleshooting, monitoring computerized equipment, fill out Maintenance requests and/or look up pertinent information.
  • Is trained and participates as a member of Company’s Fire Brigade Team.
Education / Skill Requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and orally.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Two (2) year degree preferred.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in a manufacturing setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of security and fire alarm systems.
  • Two (2) years’ experience with interpreting electrical schematics.
  • Knowledge and understanding of control software systems to ensure proper systems operation.
  • Knowledgeable and understanding PLC's, HMI’s, preferably with Allen-Bradley, and other associated types of programming.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
  • Position requires individual to be capable of traveling & working throughout the entire facility, within reasonable accommodation. The noise level is usually moderate.
