Job description

The Electrical Component Engineer is responsible for the selection, qualification, and lifecycle management of electronic and electromechanical components used in access control products. This role partners with design engineering, purchasing, quality, manufacturing, and suppliers to ensure components meet technical requirements, are available at the right cost and lead time, and comply with applicable regulatory and environmental standards.

Technical leadership
  • Drive component selection and qualification decisions by applying requirements, datasheets, and application/derating analysis; align choices to performance, reliability, cost, and availability targets.
  • Own preferred-part guidance and approval criteria; lead reviews for new parts, alternates, and deviations and provide clear disposition supported by data (supplier info, test results, field feedback).
Cross‑functional collaboration
  • Partner with Engineering, Purchasing, Quality, and Manufacturing to resolve component issues (quality, lead time, cost) and ensure selections support manufacturability and production ramp needs.
  • Engage suppliers and internal stakeholders to clarify specifications, evaluate alternates/form‑fit‑function equivalents, and communicate impacts of PCNs, shortages, and lifecycle changes.
Project management and execution
  • Execute component engineering deliverables on schedule (new part setup/approval, AVL updates, alternates, PCN dispositions, and EOL actions) to support development milestones and uninterrupted production.
  • Maintain visibility to component risks (single‑source, long lead, allocation, compliance, counterfeit) and drive mitigation plans (approved alternates, last‑time buys, redesign recommendations) with documented rationale.
Component verification and validation
  • Define the right level of component evaluation/qualification (bench checks, environmental, reliability) based on application risk, coordinate execution and capture evidence for approvals.
  • Troubleshoot component‑related failures and drive re‑qualification when changes occur (PCN/ECO, supplier process changes); ensure outcomes are communicated and documented.
  • Improve reuse and supply continuity through part rationalization, preferred alternates, and standardization; reduce unique part count where practical.
  • Strengthen part data and library quality (parametrics, compliance attributes, manufacturer data, symbols/footprints) to enable accurate designs, purchasing, and manufacturing outputs.
Documentation and compliance
  • Maintain accurate component records in PLM/ERP (approved manufacturers, attributes, alternates) and ensure BOM/AVL changes are processed through the appropriate change‑control path (ECR/ECO).
  • Maintain compliance evidence (RoHS/REACH/conflict minerals) via supplier declarations and controlled documentation; ensure impacted parts/changes are reviewed and dispositioned for audit readiness.
Knowledge sharing and professional growth
  • Share preferred‑part guidance and component processes with project teams; help drive consistent application of standards across programs.
  • Stay current on component technologies, supplier roadmaps, compliance expectations, and counterfeit avoidance practices to improve decision quality and responsiveness.
What are we looking for
  • Bachelor of Science Electrical Engineering/Bachelor of Science Electrical Engineering Technology (or equivalent experience); advanced degree or relevant certifications are a plus.
  • 5+ years in component engineering supporting electronic products, including part selection/qualification, alternates management, PCN and EOL response, and maintaining AVL/BOM/part master data in PLM/ERP.
Technical Skills
  • Component selection expertise across passives, semiconductors, and electromechanical parts, including application/derating analysis and form‑fit‑function alternate evaluation.
  • Working knowledge of supplier change control (PCN), lifecycle monitoring, and EOL/obsolescence mitigation (approved alternates, last‑time buys, redesign recommendations).
  • Ability to plan/execute component evaluation and qualification activities (bench verification, environmental/reliability as needed) and document evidence to support approvals and changes.
  • Proficiency with PLM/ERP and part master data governance (AVL management, parametrics, compliance attributes) and strong documentation discipline.
  • Familiarity with component compliance (RoHS/REACH/conflict minerals) and quality/sourcing best practices (authorized sourcing and counterfeit risk awareness).
Preferred Skills
  • Communicates clearly in writing and verbally; can translate datasheets, test results, and supplier inputs into actionable recommendations.
  • Influences cross-functionally (Engineering, Purchasing, Quality, Manufacturing) to drive timely decisions on parts, alternates, PCNs, and EOL actions.
  • Prioritizes effectively in a fast‑paced environment; manages multiple requests and escalates risks early to protect program and production schedules.
  • Detail-oriented and process disciplined; maintains accurate PLM/ERP records and controlled documentation to support change control and audit readiness.
  • Comfortable engaging suppliers and internal stakeholders to clarify specifications, request declarations, and drive closure on open actions.
  • Applies data-driven judgment and structured problem solving to evaluate tradeoffs (performance, cost, lead time, risk) and resolve component-related issues.
What we offer
  • Competitive compensation and benefits package which includes multiple healthcare options, tuition reimbursement, and matching 401k.
  • Generous holiday schedule and paid time offto refresh and recharge.
  • Employee pricing on our products and discount programs for travel, entertainment, and more!
