Job summary

Clear. is seeking an experienced Commissioning & Field Engineer – Electrical to lead the commissioning of critical electrical infrastructure from the utility interface through to the rack.

You will be hands-on across Level 2–Level 5 commissioning, collaborating with contractors, vendors, engineers, and project teams to ensure electrical systems operate as designed under normal and failure conditions. The role requires proven data center commissioning experience, strong knowledge of protection

Qualifications

  • Proven experience commissioning electrical systems within mission-critical / data center environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Level 2–Level 5 commissioning and testing.
  • Strong understanding of electrical one-line diagrams and protection studies.

Responsibilities

  • Commission electrical systems from the utility interface through to the rack.
  • Test MV/HV switchgear, UPS, generators, EPMS and related infrastructure.
  • Develop and execute test scripts for protection and failure scenarios.
  • Oversee Level 2–Level 5 commissioning and IST.
  • Manage NETA testing and vendor startups; verify results.
  • Collaborate with vendors and contractors to meet schedules.
  • Troubleshoot complex systems and drive issue resolution.
  • Ensure safety and compliance with project requirements.

Location: Across the USA | U.S. Remote

Employment Type: Full-Time

Work Arrangement: Onsite / Field-Based

Compensation: $200,000 – $250,000 base + equity

The business is developing large-scale data center capacity across the U.S., with a focus on speed, reliability, and innovative engineering. This is an opportunity to join a commissioning team working on some of the most technically demanding mission-critical infrastructure projects in the market.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Commissioning & Field Engineer – Electrical to lead the commissioning of critical electrical infrastructure from the utility interface through to the rack.

You will be hands-on throughout Level 2–Level 5 commissioning, working closely with contractors, vendors, engineers, and project teams to ensure electrical systems operate as designed under both normal and failure conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Commission electrical distribution systems from the utility interface through to the rack
  • Commission and test MV/HV switchgear, UPS systems, generators, EPMS and associated electrical infrastructure
  • Develop and execute detailed test scripts covering protection systems, transfer schemes and failure scenarios
  • Perform and oversee Level 2–Level 5 commissioning
  • Oversee NETA testing and vendor startups, independently verifying equipment and test results
  • Execute Integrated Systems Testing (IST) and full failure/\"pull-the-plug\" scenarios
  • Review electrical one-lines, protection studies and coordination curves to identify potential design issues
  • Work directly with vendors and contractors to maintain testing standards and project schedules
  • Troubleshoot complex electrical systems and drive issues through to resolution
  • Ensure commissioning activities are completed safely, accurately and in accordance with project requirements
Requirements
  • Proven experience commissioning electrical systems within mission-critical / data center environments
  • Hands-on experience with Level 2–Level 5 commissioning
  • Experience performing integrated systems testing and failure testing
  • Strong understanding of electrical one-line diagrams, protection studies and coordination curves
  • Experience with megawatt-scale load bank testing
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot complex electrical systems
  • Strong vendor and contractor management skills
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced environments with significant project and schedule pressure
  • Willingness to travel extensively to project sites across the U.S.
