Job summary

Salas O’Brien is seeking a Electrical Co-op to assist engineers with CAD drafting and field inspections. The role includes converting sketches to AutoCAD/Revit, coordinating with multiple designers, and reading P&IDs.

The student will gain exposure to power plans and project deliverables while contributing to a dynamic design team. Ideal candidates are pursuing an EE/EET-related degree, with proficiency in AutoCAD or Revit and solid MS Office skills.

Qualifications

• Pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree in EE/EET or related field.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit.
• Strong MS Office skills and basic drafting knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Assist engineers with field inspections and information gathering.
• Create sketches from field inspections.
• Convert design sketches/markups to AutoCAD/Revit formats.
• Coordinate project details with engineers, lead designers, and other discipline leads.
• Read P&IDs (Process and Instrumentation Diagrams).
• Prepare drawings and deliverables per CAD standards.

Job Title: Electrical Co-op
Reports To: Department Manager

JOB SUMMARY: Understand basic function of AutoCAD and/or Revit, basic drafting skills, and Microsoft Office Applications. Responsible for completing all tasks assigned corresponding with experience and skill level.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The responsibilities listed are part of the role Electrical plays in ensuring that systems operate efficiently and meet the desired objectives, particularly in industries such as facility, process, manufacturing, or energy business sectors. Other responsibilities may be assigned.

• Perform assigned project tasks with guidance from Engineers, Lead and Senior Designers including:
• Participate in collecting information from field inspections.
• Produce sketches from field inspections.
• Interpret field sketches generated by others.
• Convert design sketches/mark-ups to AutoCAD / Revit format.
• Participate in coordination of project details with Engineers, lead designers, and other discipline leads.
• Read P&IDs (Process and Instrumentation Diagrams).
• MEDL – Motor, Electrical, Device List
• Single & Three-Line Diagrams
• Panel Schedules
• Power Plans and other plan drawings
• Electrical Schematics
• Conduit & Cable Schedules
• Electrical Calculations – Cable, Conduit, Cable Tray
• Electrical Load Calculations
• Transformer and Starter Calculations

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Experience:

• In pursuit of an associate or bachelor’s degree within EE, EET or related field.
• AutoCAD and/or Revit

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Working Hours/Environment

• Hours average 32; may require additional hours up to 40 per week depending on business needs.
• Work typically performed in an indoor office setting.

TRAVEL:

Local client site visit, depending on experience and skill level.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Frequently required to sit at a desk/workstation for long period of time.
• Ability to work at a computer terminal for extended periods of time.
• Light Lifting up to 20 lbs.
• Ability to analyze unique situations and develop appropriate responses.
• While performing duties of this job, the employee may work under the following conditions:
• Construction work site
• Exposed to mechanical moving equipment.
