Job summary

Lake Superior Consulting is seeking an Electrical CAD Designer to join our team in a flexible work environment with hybrid and remote options. The role focuses on planning, design, and delivery of industrial energy projects, including 2D/3D drawings, panel layouts, and 3D equipment models.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years in electrical CAD drafting, an A.A.S. in Electrical Drafting & Design, and proficiency with AutoDesk 3D products; Elecdes or AutoCAD Plant 3D experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• A.A.S. degree or equivalent in Electrical Drafting & Design.
• 3+ years of electrical CAD drafting/design experience.
• Proficiency with AutoDesk 3D products.
• Experience with electrical modeling software such as Elecdes and/or AutoCAD Plant 3D is a plus.
• Knowledge of electrical symbols, schematics, PLCs, control systems, panel design, hazardous areas, and grounding.
• Strong drafting quality control and construction documentation understanding.
• Good math skills and design calculations.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Willingness to learn and collaborate in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Create and modify detailed 2D and 3D electrical drawings, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, schematics and cable/conduit schedules.
• Develop 3D models of electrical equipment and facility layouts.
• Interpret designs and markups from engineers into CAD drawings.
• Maintain CAD files with adherence to standards and quality.
• Ensure drawings meet codes, standards, and company guidelines.
• Coordinate with mechanical, civil and other disciplines to resolve conflicts.
• Perform field visits to verify site information for accurate design.
• Assist with redlines, document control and drawing updates.
• Review CAD deliverables for accuracy and compliance.
• Mentor junior drafters and occasionally lead small drafting teams.

As an Electrical CAD Designer, you’ll play a key role in the planning, design, and delivery of industrial energy projects. What You’ll Do

As a CAD Designer I, you'll support engineering teams from concept through to as-built delivery. Your responsibilities will include:

• Creating and modifying detailed 2D and 3D electrical drawings, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, schematics and cable and conduit schedules.
• Develop 3D models of electrical equipment and facility layouts.
• Interpret electrical design specifications, sketches, and markups from engineers and convert them into CAD drawings.
• Maintain and organize drawing files with strong attention to CAD standards and drafting quality.
• Ensure drawings comply with applicable codes, standards, and company guidelines.
• Coordinate with other disciplines (mechanical, civil, etc.) to resolve design conflicts.
• Performing field visits to verify and gather site information for design accuracy.
• Assisting with redlines, drawing updates, and document control processes.
• Checking and reviewing CAD deliverables for accuracy and compliance.
• Mentoring and guiding junior drafters and occasionally leading small drafting teams.

What You Bring

• A.A.S. Degree in Electrical Drafting & Design or related technical field.
• 3+ years of relevant experience in electrical CAD drafting/design.
• Advanced proficiency in AutoDesk 3D products.
• Skillset in electrical modeling software: Elecdes and/or AutoCAD Plant 3D is a plus.
• Understanding electrical symbols, schematics, PLCs, control systems, panel design, hazardous area, and grounding.
• Solid understanding of construction processes, design documentation, and drafting quality control.
• Strong mathematical skills and the ability to perform design-related calculations.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Willingness to learn, take initiative, and collaborate in a team environment.

Lake Superior Consulting offers a competitive compensation package. The actual starting pay will be determined based on a variety of factors, including your skills, experience, and office/market location. The anticipated range for this position is $29 -$40/hr.
