The Assistant Electrical Project Manager supports the planning, coordination, execution, and completion of electrical construction and maintenance projects. Working closely with the Project Manager, field supervision, clients, subcontractors, and vendors, this position helps ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and according to quality standards and contract requirements.
The Assistant Electrical Project Manager plays a key role in project administration, scheduling, procurement, cost tracking, and field coordination while developing the leadership and technical skills necessary for advancement into a Project Manager role.
Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination
- Assist in planning and managing electrical construction and industrial projects from initiation through completion.
- Coordinate project activities with engineering, procurement, field supervision, subcontractors, and clients.
- Track project schedules and support milestone achievement.
- Monitor project progress and identify potential risks or delays.
- Participate in project meetings and document action items and project updates.
Cost Control & Budget Management
- Assist with project budgeting, forecasting, and cost reporting.
- Track labor productivity, equipment costs, and material expenditures.
- Review invoices, purchase orders, and subcontractor billing for accuracy.
- Support the preparation and management of change orders.
- Help maintain project profitability through effective cost control and resource planning.
Procurement & Material Management
- Assist in the procurement of electrical materials, tools, equipment, and subcontractor services.
- Coordinate material deliveries to align with project schedules.
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure timely availability of critical project resources.
- Maintain vendor and supplier relationships.
Field Support
- Work closely with Electrical Superintendents, Foremen, and field crews to ensure project objectives are met.
- Conduct site visits to monitor progress, quality, and safety compliance.
- Assist in resolving technical and operational issues affecting project execution.
- Support workforce planning and labor allocation efforts.
Safety & Compliance
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to company policies and applicable regulations.
- Support implementation of OSHA, NFPA, NEC, and client-specific safety requirements.
- Participate in safety meetings, inspections, and incident investigations.
- Ensure project documentation complies with contractual and regulatory requirements.
Quality Assurance
- Assist in maintaining quality standards throughout project execution.
- Review drawings, specifications, submittals, and project documentation.
- Support quality inspections, testing, commissioning, and project turnover activities.
- Help identify and resolve quality issues in a timely manner.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain project files, reports, meeting minutes, RFIs, submittals, and change order logs.
- Assist with schedule updates and progress reporting.
- Prepare project status reports for management and clients.
- Ensure accurate documentation is maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
Client & Stakeholder Relations
- Support communication with customers, engineers, vendors, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Foster positive client relationships through responsive and professional service.
- Assist in addressing project concerns and coordinating solutions.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of electrical construction, industrial maintenance, or project coordination experience.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, construction processes, and project management principles.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, specifications, and contract documents.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Project.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
