Job summary

Capital Power is seeking an Electrical Asset Engineer to provide day-to-day engineering and technical support for generating assets, ensuring electrical systems are safe, reliable, and compliant while supporting plant operations through troubleshooting and continuous optimisation.

The role covers design, maintenance, and improvement initiatives, collaboration with operations, and guidance to junior engineers. Primary work at a generating facility with some travel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent required.
  • P.Eng. designation or eligibility is an asset.
  • 0–2 years of related engineering experience in industrial or power-generation environments.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, design, maintenance, and applicable codes and standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Provide electrical engineering support to plant operations and maintenance teams.
  • Design and manage execution of electrical repairs, upgrades and system modifications.
  • Investigate and resolve complex electrical equipment and system issues.
  • Interpret and apply electrical codes, regulations and industry standards.
  • Support predictive and preventative maintenance programs to improve asset reliability.
  • Lead and participate in engineering projects.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance and external contractors.

Job description

Electrical Asset Engineer – Full Time, Permanent – Capital Power

The Electrical Asset Engineer provides day‑to‑day engineering and technical support for assigned generating assets, ensuring electrical systems are safe, reliable and compliant while supporting plant operations through troubleshooting, design improvements and continuous optimisation initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Provide electrical engineering support to plant operations and maintenance teams.
  • Design and manage execution of electrical repairs, upgrades and system modifications.
  • Investigate and resolve complex electrical equipment and system issues.
  • Interpret and apply electrical codes, regulations and industry standards.
  • Support predictive and preventative maintenance programs to improve asset reliability.
  • Analyse equipment performance and recommend design or process improvements.
  • Lead and participate in small to moderately complex engineering projects.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance and external contractors to ensure successful execution of work.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Engineers‑in‑Training (EITs) or junior engineers.
  • Support Management of Change processes and engineering governance requirements.
  • Promote and maintain a strong Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) culture.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility is an asset.
  • 0–2 years of related engineering experience; experience in industrial or power‑generation environments is an asset.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, design, maintenance and applicable codes and standards.
  • Understanding of reliability and maintenance practices.
  • Strong problem‑solving, analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross‑functional team environment.
Working Conditions
  • Combination of office and field‑based work.
  • Primary work performed at a generating facility.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
