Job summary

CPI Power Electronics - PA - State College is seeking an assembler for electronic components, PCBs, cables, and subassemblies. You will read drawings, BOMs, and work instructions while installing and soldering through-hole and surface-mount parts.

You will measure, strip, terminate wires, and use microscopes and basic test equipment to ensure quality. The role requires attention to detail, ability to follow instructions, and basic math skills.

Qualifications

  • Reads and interprets assembly drawings, schematics, BOMs and work instructions.
  • Follows IPC soldering standards; soldering and inspection accuracy are essential.
  • Basic math, measurement and computer skills for production records.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble electronic components, PCBs, cables, and subassemblies.

  • Inspect assemblies for placement, polarity, solder quality, and workmanship.
  • Perform continuity checks and functional tests; report defects and discrepancies.
  • Rework or repair assemblies per instructions and training scope.
  • Follow ESD controls and safety/quality procedures.
  • Complete production records and paperwork accurately.

Description
You will be accountable to:
  • Assemble electronic components, printed circuit boards, cables, wire harnesses, and related subassemblies.
  • Read and interpret assembly drawings, schematics, bills of materials, and work instructions.
  • Install and solder through-hole and surface-mount components as required.
  • Measure, cut, strip, crimp, terminate, and label wires and cables.
  • Use hand tools, soldering equipment, microscopes, magnifiers, and basic electronic test equipment.
  • Inspect components and completed assemblies for correct placement, polarity, solder quality, and overall workmanship.
  • Perform continuity checks, functional tests, and other basic electronic testing.
  • Identify and report defective materials, damaged components, drawing discrepancies, and assembly problems.
  • Rework or repair assemblies according to approved instructions and within the scope of training.
  • Follow electrostatic discharge controls and all applicable safety and quality procedures.
  • Complete production records, inspection documentation, and other required paperwork accurately.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
You are the right person if you have:
  • Previous electrical assembly, panel wiring, or manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and work instructions.
  • Familiarity with wire preparation, crimping, termination, soldering, and electrical testing methods.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, and basic electrical test equipment.
  • IPC soldering certification or experience working to IPC standards is an asset.
  • Basic math, measurement, and computer skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and complete work within established production schedules.
Minimum job requirements:
  • High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
