M&S Engineering, LLC seeks an Electric Underground/Overhead Distribution Designer who is organized and self-motivated to produce field designs, staking, and construction prints using CAD/GIS tools.

The role reports to the office and is not remote; travel across Texas is required, with coordination among contractors, engineers, developers, customers, and consultants.

Duties include cost estimation, easement work, plan development, and ensuring NEC/NESC, EPA, OSHA compliance while updating GIS data.

Qualifications

Job description

M&S Engineering, LLC seeks qualified candidates that are highly organized, energetic, self-motivated with the ability to work independently or as a team for the position of Electric Underground/Overhead Distribution Designer. The position will produce electric distribution field designs, staking of distribution facilities, project estimation and preparation of construction prints using electronic design/estimation software in accordance with the client’s standards of construction and specification.

This position will report to the office and is not remote.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

• Perform cost estimates, plan material needs and follow up on progress on projects from inception to completion.
• Interface regularly with contractors, engineers, developers, customers, and consultants
• Coordinate closely with key stakeholders to discuss the process and procedures for supplying electric power
• Research, acquire, record, and verify easement information
• Implement and manage solution from conceptualization through planning and construction, to project completion and financial reconciliation
• Evaluate environmental constraints and identify projects requirements, i.e., permits, easements, aesthetics, fees, etc.
• Research new material specifications and resolve basic material issues
• Perform complex power system calculations: voltage drop, equipment sizing, etc.
• Interpret survey data, plan, deed information, and engineered construction drawings
• Develop master system plans for future growth in large developments
• Operate computer assisted engineering and design software
• Edit within Global Information System (GIS) to assure accuracy and connectivity
• Prepare easements and exhibits, including property descriptions, record survey measurements, and descriptive data using notes, drawings, sketches, and plats
• Coordinate pre-development and pre-construction meetings with all involved departments and personnel
• Act as first contact between line construction crews and landowners regarding existing line and easements
• Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, warning labels, etc.
• Make presentations to councils and neighborhood groups regarding overall plan and costs
• Prepare large scale distribution design with minimal supervision
• Conduct construction pre and post inspections
• Interpret, adhere to, and enforce the company safety policy, and the National Electric Safety Code and National Electric Code
• Maintain the security of confidential information

Requirements:

• High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of directly related experience
• Valid Driver's License and be insurable to drive company vehicles
• Knowledge of using computer systems and AutoCAD
• Ability to work outside in all seasons for extended periods of time. This position requires both inside and outside work.
• Ability to travel overnight to various parts of Texas and surrounding states.
• Knowledge of principles for providing customer service
• Knowledge of specification book, current Joint Use Agreements, Rates, and Language, construction materials, warehousing methods, National Electric Code, National Electric Safety Code specifications, EPA, and OSHA codes
• Knowledge of basic principles of property rights, easement acquisition, and construction practices
• Skilled in time management, prioritizing, and conflict resolution
• Ability to draw and edit GIS mapping
• Ability to communicate, listen, and understand effectively verbally and in writing
