Job description

The Analysis Solutions Business Area at Leidos has an opening for an Electric Power Systems Engineer in Reston, Virginia. The primary focus of this team is conducting engineering assessments of critical infrastructure, including strategic, mission‑critical, and heavy industrial facilities.

The ideal candidate will bring a creative yet disciplined approach to solving complex technical challenges in environments where complete information may not always be available. Success in this role requires exceptional analytical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to producing accurate, high‑quality work products.

The selected candidate will work as part of an interdisciplinary team of government and contractor personnel supporting facility characterization and technical assessments. Work is performed in a fast‑paced, mission‑focused environment within a government facility.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Integrate all‑source intelligence, facility expertise, engineering principles and industry best practices to characterize the function, mission and physical configuration of WMD‑related facilities, including facility layouts, structures, mission systems, support systems, 3D models, and potential vulnerabilities.
  • Utilize state‑of‑the‑art modeling and simulation tools to analyze complex electric power systems.
  • Provide engineering expertise and technical judgment throughout the characterization process to support accurate intelligence assessments.
  • Develop technical reports, briefings and other written products describing complex electrical systems, infrastructure dependencies and operational capabilities for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Analyze electrical infrastructure capabilities, vulnerabilities and trends to support customer requirements.
  • Brief senior officials and decision‑makers on engineering assessments, findings and analytical conclusions.
  • Communicate effectively with personnel across a wide range of technical backgrounds and organizational levels.
Required Skills, Education and Experience
  • Candidate must possess an active TS/SCI clearance or a Top Secret clearance with a current SSBI and be eligible to obtain a TS/SCI with polygraph.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in applying advanced engineering principles, theories, concepts and techniques.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field and 8+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree and 6+ years of relevant experience. A doctoral degree in a related technical discipline may be substituted for some experience requirements.
  • Experience planning, engineering and designing electric power systems, with particular emphasis on substations and power distribution systems.
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics and design documentation in both digital and hard‑copy formats.
  • Knowledge of applicable electrical engineering codes, standards and industry practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare and deliver technical briefings to senior officials and decision‑makers.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of mechanical systems, life‑safety systems and associated controls commonly found in commercial, government and industrial facilities.
  • Experience specifying, evaluating, and procuring major electrical power equipment.
  • Experience planning, engineering and designing emergency power systems, including generators, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems and backup power architectures.
  • Experience with Smart Grid technologies, energy management systems and modern power monitoring solutions.
  • Experience designing substation protection and control systems.
  • Experience with modeling and simulation of electrical distribution systems, industrial control systems and SCADA environments.
  • Experience with Autodesk Revit, Autodesk AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software.
  • Facility planning, infrastructure assessment or facility characterization experience.
  • Military, intelligence community or defense‑related experience.
Pay Range

Pay Range: $92,300.00 - $166,850.00. The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
