Xcel Energy is offering an internship in Electrical Distribution Design to develop project management and GIS/mapping skills. You will work with IT systems and cross-functional teams to support electric service requests for customers.

The role requires current enrollment in an ABET-accredited program and the ability to travel to project sites. Hybrid work policy applies; many duties will be performed in-person at the designated location.

Qualifications

• Current student, Sophomore or higher enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management.
• Willingness to travel to job sites for project design planning, construction site readiness, customer meetings.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours/week) or part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours/week).

Responsibilities

• Assist with Electric Distribution Design tasks, including project management and GIS/mapping.
• Coordinate communications with internal and external customers.
• Learn and use Company IT systems and GIS/mapping tools.
• Support field visits to project sites as needed.

This intern position will assist with Electric Distribution Design tasks, including project management, GIS/mapping, visiting project sites for field work, billing, and other office tasks as needed. This position will work with the Company’s various IT programs, construction, and other departments to provide electric services/requests to our customers.

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

• Project Management
• Communication with internal/external customers

• Ability to learn Company IT systems, including GIS/mapping

This position is for a May 24, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

Minimum Requirements

• Current student, Sophomore or higher
• Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management
• Travel to job sites for project design planning, construction site readiness, customer meetings.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $18.90 to $22.10 per hour
