Job summary

Dayton Public Schools is seeking a high‑quality EL Specialist to organize, plan, and implement instruction for multilingual learners, leveraging English language learning to support all content areas. Work under building administrators and collaborate with teams to enhance student outcomes and professional learning.

The role engages with district EL leaders to drive student engagement, achievement, and connection to district and community opportunities for learning.

Responsibilities

  • Clearly communicate learning objectives to students and prioritize progress toward learning goals.
  • Create engaging lessons aligned with pacing guidelines and district curriculum to drive the growth and development of students.
  • Select teaching methods and instructional materials to meet diverse student needs and interests.
  • Use student data continuously from formative and summative assessments to plan instructional choices and delivery.
  • Participate in professional learning teams to analyze data and support colleagues in instructional practices that impact student learning.
  • Utilize reflective practices and current research to improve instructional approaches.
  • Complete or support compliance tasks to meet federal and state requirements related to English Learner identification, notification, services, monitoring and testing.
  • Ensure accommodations for ELs on state‑mandated testing and facilitate the OELPA administration.
  • Implement the district's classroom management strategies and program.
  • Establish and maintain positive rapport with students, parents, and other staff.
  • Seek out opportunities to support EL students and families in engaging fully in the life of the school and community.
  • Attend staff meetings and professional development activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Summary

The EL Specialist organizes, plans, and implements instruction in ways that maximize student learning for multilingual learners of English. The EL Specialist engages in carefully crafted teaching and learning strategies to leverage successful English language learning in the service of all content areas. The EL Specialist works under the direct supervision of the building administrators and collaborates with colleagues on building teams to best support student outcomes and professional learning. The EL Specialist also benefits from close collaboration with the district EL leaders to grow as a teacher and in turn to ensure student engagement, academic achievement, and connection to all district and community opportunities for learning.
