Job summary

Bon Secours Mercy Health is seeking an EKG Technician to verify patient identity, apply leads, and perform EKGs, Holter, and Event monitoring. The role requires attention to detail and strong communication as part of a patient care team.

• Perform, transmit, and process EKGs.
• Perform Holter Monitoring procedures, including application/disconnection and diary instructions for patients.
• Perform Event Monitor procedures, including application and post-event transmissions.
• Maintain equipment in clean, working condition and report malfunctions or supplies needs.
• Participate in cross training and orient new employees to the department.

Job description

Primary Function/General Purpose Of Position

• Verifies the patient’s name armband to the order requisition, ensuring that the correct patient receives the test.
• Applies electrodes to the chest and extremity areas, adhering to the standards established for proper lead placement, utilizing alternate sites for lead placement when appropriate and adhering to the standards of counting the intercostal spaces for each patient ensuring proper lead placement. Prepares the patient’s chest area (shave, clean, abrade) when needed to obtain high quality tracings.
• Performs, transmits, and processes EKGs.
• Performs Holter Monitoring procedures. This entails application and disconnection of Holter monitors. Explains to the patient how to maintain the patient’s diary (record keeping) of the symptoms and events experienced.
• Performs Event Monitor procedures. This entails application, receiving post event transmissions. Instructs the patient how to perform event-recording transmissions.
• Maintains equipment in clean and proper working condition and notifies the supervisor, Bio-Medical department or designated personnel of malfunctioning equipment. Notifies manager of needed supplies.
• Participates in cross training and orienting new employees to the department.
