Job summary

The Rane Center is seeking an ECG/EKG technician to operate ECG equipment, assist with stress tests, and support quality improvement initiatives within the Imaging & Radiology department. You will manage patient flow, explain procedures, and maintain equipment with strict adherence to safety policies.

Requirements include active BLS certification and a high school diploma or equivalent, with preference for prior ECG/Holter/stress testing experience and strong customer service skills.

Qualifications

  • American Heart Association BLS certification required and must remain active.
  • High school education or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience with ECG, Holter and stress testing equipment preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service and crisis management skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work cooperatively with patients and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Operates ECG/EKG equipment to record heart electrical activity.
  • Completes patient log and processes charge entries before shift end.
  • Ensure inventory of EKG, Holter and stress equipment is adequate.
  • Explains procedures to patients and families to ensure comfort and understanding.
  • Maintains and reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor promptly.
  • Performs EKG, Holter monitoring and exercise stress tests per policies.
  • Stocks, inventories, cleans, and assists with quality improvement projects.
  • Contributes to monthly service data presentations for quality initiatives.
  • Follows hospital safety regulations and infection control policies.
  • Participates in in-service programs and staff meetings to enhance professional standards.

Description

Operates electrocardiograph (ECG or EKG) equipment to record electric variations and impulses of the heart for use in the diagnosis of heart disorders. Assists with exercise (stress) testing as needed.


Job Specific Duties

  • Completes patient log and performs charge entry before end of shift.
  • Ensure adequate inventory of EKG, Holter and stress equipment.
  • Explains examination procedure and reassures patient and family to ensure comfort, understanding and cooperation.
  • Maintains equipment in good working condition and reports malfunctions to supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Performs EKG, Holter monitoring and exercise (stress) tests accurately and following department policies and procedures.
  • Performs inventory, stocks, cleans and assists with special projects that result in department quality improvements.
  • Presents service data and test results for continuous quality improvement initiatives on a monthly basis.
  • Complies with all hospital safety regulations and infection control policies.
  • Maintains and enhances professional standards by participating in in-service programs, seminars, professional meetings, and staff meetings.
